Mangalore: Boy Victims Deny Manjula's Claims, Demand CBI Probe

Mangalore, Aug 11: "We do not believe in police investigation. We want CBI enquiry, fast track court and an independent lawyer to fight the case," said Gurudutt Kamath and Vijay Kumar, both two of the victims of the recent Padil stay home attack.
Addressing a press meet here on Saturday August11, they explained the entire incident as it happened, and as was reported in these columns earlier, and placed forward a few demands from the central and the state governments.
On the Women's Commission chairperson Manjula's claim that the boys had consumed drugs, the two boys questioned the credibility of her report and demanded to know on what basis or proof she had made the allegation.
"Police examined the home stay thoroughly on the night of the attack, but found no evidence of ganja or any other drugs at the spot," they pointed out, completely denying her claims.
"The WC chairperson did not meet us on her visit to the city," they said, and urged the government not to consider this WC report and suspend Manjula.
They claimed that the police were aware of the incident beforehand. "One police jeep had come along with the attackers, as the attackers entered the main door, the jeep fled. Later after the attack, the same jeep came to the spot. Hence, the police officers must be suspended," they said.
"We cannot rely on the police investigations on any point, and hence the goverement should allow us to hire a special public prosecutor of our choice," they said.
"The police were found guilty in the entire incident, and therefore the case has to be handed over to the CBI," they added.
They thanked the media even as they alleged that the police took their signatures on blank papers and made wrong reports that they had blamed the media for the incident. "We did not blame or complain against the media. It is because of the media that attackers stopped short of raping the girls, and because of media the incident garnered so much attention. The attackers told the media persons to switch off their cameras, but they kept the recording on, hence preventing the incident from taking worse turns," they said, urging the government to dismiss the cases against the reporters.
"There has been a massive attempt to change the direction of this case by going into old issues and matters related to our families, especially our parents' background. Hence, a special fast track court has to be set up for further investigations," they demanded.
