Mangalore, Aug 9: Heavy rains that resumed in the city following a brief dry spell, are once again taking their toll on the citizens.
The exterior wall of a house collapsed in Hoigebailu, Ashoknagar on Thursday August 9 at around 2 am.
The mud house, said to be constructed almost 60 years ago, belonged to Yashoda Devadiga.
The wall has completely collapsed, resulting in a loss of Rs 1.5 lac.
Though no injuries have been reported, the family is in despair as she is financially poor and has no one to help them.
Amithakala, deputy mayor visited the spot and assured financial assistance from the city corporation. Village accountant Dharmendra was also present.
A similar incident was also reported at Derebail.
In an incident that occured at around 10 pm on Wednesday August 8, a compound wall of a warehouse in Mannagudda here collapsed, causing much damage.
The collapse sparked-off a chain reaction, bringing down compound walls of an apartment next to it, which in turn damaged boundary walls of three other adjacent houses.
As a result, the road between the residential apartments and the houses has been completely closed to traffic.
No one was injured in the incident. However, there are chances of further damage to the apartment building if rains continue.
Efforts are on to clear the debris. The total loss is yet to be ascertained.
