Mangalore: Konkani Language must Be Promoted More Often-Benna Ruzai

Mangalore, Aug 7: It was a unique programme by Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy “Ghar Ghar Konkani” held at Marcel D’Souza’s (Machcha, Milaar) residence at Pandeshwar, Mangalore on Sunday, August 5.

After the invocation, the programme was commenced by lighting the lamp by the president of the academy, Kasaragodu Chinna, followed by registrar, Dr B Devadas Pai, members of the academy, Roy Castelino, Mahesh Nayak , Ashok Shet and the hosts Marcel and Janet D’Souza.

 

 

Roy Castelino while speaking in the inaugural speech said that the concept of this programme is to reach the Konkani people and to create an awareness that the academy is working for the promotion of Konkani language, literature and the culture. Instead of conducting programmes in the academy office, it is better the academy reaches the Konkani people living in various places of  Karnataka.

Benna, Ruzai spoke on the occasion and requested the people to talk in Konkani and to conduct their programmes in Konkani.

Storytelling, songs,  Kavitha Vachan and dances were held as a part of the cultural function by Suzan, Shameen, Liza ,Daphne, Doreen, Issac D’Souza, Richie Pais, J F D’Souza,and Marcel.

The president of the academy, Kasaragodu Chinna while delivering his presidential speech said that this programme will be held throughout the State and this is the fifth programme conducted by them so far.  He urged the writers to write more and the academy will give the assistance to publish their work.

A proposal to increase the honorarium paid to book publishers, writers and singers from Rs. 2,000 to Rs.5, 000 has been sent to the government for approval.

Marcel D’Souza welcomed the guests and Janet D’Souza proposed vote of thanks.

Shameen Rodrigues compered the programme.
