Mangalore: Activists Barge into Party at Resort, Thrash Girls

Mangalore: Hindu Activists Barge into Party at Resort, Thrash Girls

Mangalore, Jul 28: In an incident that brought back memories of the infamous 2009 pub attack, activists allegedly belonging to Hindu Janajagrana Vedike on Saturday July 28 raided a resort in Padil, and thrashed and slapped girls who were allegedly partying.

The group barged into Morning Mist Home Stay at Padil and reportedly found alcohol and young people dressed indecently. They thrashed and manhandled a group of girls and boys who were at the party.

The activists claimed that those in the party were dancing and were involved in undesirable activities. There were four girls and around four or five boys.

One of the activists was seen slapping and bashing the head of a girl and pulling her roughly even as she tried to escape.

Kankanady rural police rushed to the spot. They took the activists into custody.

Corporator Mohan Padil was also detained and later released.

The locals also accompanied the Vedike actvists. They said that they had been complaining about the party even before but no action was taken, after which they approached the activists

The police later took the boys and girls also into custody for questioning.

This is the second such incident reported in the city in the last three years. In 2009, Mangalore came into national limelight after activists of Sri Rama Sene assaulted girls at a pub in Balmatta. While it was justified as a move to 'protect' Indian culture by the Sene, the incident invited the ire of people across the nation.

Protest

As soon as the news spread, hundreds of people gathered outside the resort and began to protest. They demanded arrest and strict action against the activists.

They also expressed fear that the police would let them go free without taking action.

As the situation went out of control, the police had to use mild lathi charge disperse the crowd.

Mayor Condemns Act

Mangalore mayor Gulzar Banu has angrily reacted to this incident. Speaking exclusively to daiiworld, she said, "Looking at daijiworld news, I am saddened to see people hitting girls. Being a mother, I feel sad that girls are treated like that in our place. Every mother, every brother, every sister will feel this. On the other hand, the resort culture is also not acceptable. Young boys and girls partying in such a way is not acceptable to the society. Resort owners must be held responsbile for this," she said.

Why didn't Hindu activists protest against Udupi rave party? - Mahendra Kumar

Speaking to daijiworld, Mahendra Kumar, former Bajrang Dal president, and now a JD(S) party member criticised Hindu Jagarana Vedike members who attacked girls at the Padil resort. He questioned the same activists and demanded to know why they had not raided the 'Rave party' organised at Malpe in February under the district administration.

"That party was worse than this. If they are really concerned about culture, then they should have treated that incident also in the same way," he said.

He criticised the district administration for failure in law and order. "Government is not serious about tackling these issues," he said.

Congress Demands Release of Girls

The Congress activists protested against the police for taking girls involved in the resort incident into custody.

They headed to Pandeshwar women police station and staged a dharna demanding the immediate release of the girls.

Condemning the incident, they demanded strict action against the activists of Hindu Janajagrana Vedike and said that it is they who should be arrested and not the girls.

"The girls and boys were only having a birthday celebration in the resort, and were not doing anything illegal. Why should they be taken into custody?" they questioned.

Congratulations to Hindu Jagrana Vedike for carrying out this good act of saving our society from the evil activities. It is the duty of the society to protect the society and Hindu Jagrana Vedike had done a right thing. As far as attack on women is concerned, some men and women learn only when they are violently attacked. ( Thodyank khot ghaln bood sanglyar matr bood yeta) Why cant these outrageous women be beaten? Society spoils because of these outrageous women. These same Deceptive and cheating women will cheat their would be saying that they were very decent before marriage. These kind of women should be chased out of this country

Before Mangalore was one of the quite and calm and beautiful place to live. But now after these activists have entered everything has become worse. Girls cant move out freely as friends with boys. I guess even if we girls go out with our brothers also these activists might get us married (Esp. On Valentine day.
When porn movie was being watched in Parliament that time where did these activists disappear.

Dear so called Activists! I have a doubt. When there was a rave party happening in Malpe St Mary's Islands, led by some political "party" leasders, where the were u disappeared??? You guys must be somewere hiding n enjoying, gotten drunk etc etc thats why nobody attacked this party!!!
We all know the kind of language you have in your mouth when a girl walks on any Indian roads even with a Salwar Kameez/Saree (ask any of the college going or any ladies how insecure and helpless they feel when they walk towards the college or the markets). One abusive sentence to put here in Tulu used by so called "Culture Preservers" - "Ala ya, au Item toola ya. malla ****(sensored)... And this is the truth.
When you guys have dirt in ur own "belly", why do you try to clean others???

And for those who say the ppl who were partying were doing illegal activities to spoil the culture:
Guys, things like "watching porn", "fantacising onself by imagining ppl of ur opposite sex", sending vulgar sms, vulgar words in mouth", Jealousy, "Arrogance"etc etc - All these are also Sins or chrateristics Which lead to spoil the culture. Is anyone of you among the attackers not indulged in any of these acts anytime??? You have!!! which means against the culture right!!!
Now tell me are u really clean!!! If u beat the ppl who were partying/enjoying, then we all are liabe to "get slapped"!! Think over it.

I suggest, rathar than attacking such parties, at least get united and fight for the ppl suffering in the country (For eg: get together and slap the looters of India who loot the wealth in the name of politics, slap the ppl who rape/molest our gals, slap those who ruin their families and put them on roads...etc etc)...
Are u able to do this????????!!!!!

Culture and society keep evolving and so will its people. its high time the Mangalore taliban realized this. I feel sorry for these people who have no work other than interfering in innocent peoples lives. It seems to be moral to have DANCE BARS in Mangalore but immoral to have a house party. They have no respect for the Indian democratic setup or the law of the land, which proves they are anti-Indian. Its high time these EXTREMIST groups are banned as TERRORIST organisations..... because they instill terror and are TERRORISTS..

Look at the saviors of our culture, their outfit, behavior and attitude!!!

If HJV people who involved in yesterday’s act, have guts & nuts, let them fight against corruption in the state, stand against criminal activities taking place in district, let them attack on thousands of BARs, serving alcohol.

They won’t do that, because, they are aware of the power of the people, who run above activities & these goons will be not in a position to stand on their two legs, if they oppose above said activities. So, they are targeting college students, their motto is simple – “Less Risk & more publicity”

I am not supporter of any vedike or Sene. And I am not supporting what they did. It is totally inhuman and condemable act.
But , frankly speaking, does the party looks like Birthday Pary ? The way the girls dressed up, the boy half naked ? Is our youngsters in the name of Birthday Party, indulge in wrong activities ?
Only the full investigation will reveal the truth.

THIS IS SERIOUS INHUMANE ACTIVITY!
Mangalore is deteriorating. Women are being treated worse than animals! Such inhumane behaviour!!! Question is what rights do these men have to raise their hand on anyone for tht matter. Shows their FILTHY mentality and ILLITERACY! They should be hanged. Where has the morality and respect gone??!! Serious action should be taken towards these third rated men. They just wanted to fulfill their filthy desire to touch and manhandle those women. When the parents of the students have no problem with it what RIGHTS do these dogs have?! SERIOUS ACTION should be taken by our "corrupt" government! NO WONDER India is taking so long to develop in all aspects. It is because of such GUTTER MENTALITY of the society. Mixed martial arts must be introduced to all girls in schools and colleges. When these men get kicked in the balls that's when their other side of the brain will start functioning!!!

HI EVERYONE,
People have their own priorities in their life and it don't mean that these activist can enter any party place and molest girls, slap them and touch or take a video of them, it is called raping.. These activist must be taken into custody and torchered. This shows how civilized they are, don't they have their mother or sister at home, is this how they behave at their house or with their mother or sisters, activist like these must be taken into custody and there should be some serious action taken on them. Why cant these people do some good work rather than spoiling the peace, name and future of teenagers or any others.

These people just want to do some show biz. They just don't reach anywhere in their life Instead of doing this why cant these people help the handicapped or old aged people, why cant they show the muscle power on these things. This shows how much value do they have girls and women around them. PEOPLE do u thing our sister or wife, Daughter can go out freely when these people are out like these ??? I say its Never.
These people are barbarions, uncivilised, uneducated, we should not entertain such people in our society or anywhere in Mangalore, if we find people like them we need to hit them in chapales. Now a day couples cant even go out b'coz of these uncivilised people in our socitey. These activies or any gruop must be stopped before they take the LAW into their own dirty hands. Because we do have our own right and some privacy in our life and it don't mean that they have to right to stop it. These activist are failure in their life that is why they want to harm people who enjoy their life in peace. POLICE MUST TAKE PROPER ACTION AGAINST THESE KIND OF ACTIVIST RATHER THAN ENTERTAINING THEM BECAUSE THEY HAVE DONE WRONG THING BY SLAPPING, TAKING VIDEO AND BY TOUCHING THEM AND ALSO BY BREAKING INTO A HOUSE. POLICE PLEASE TAKE SERIOUS ACTION AGAINST THESE ACTIVIST NOW AND IN FUTURE.

If we truly believe that "human dignity" is a prime concern then we people should take proper steps to prevent scandalous behaviour . Go for signature campaign. Every institution(school, colleges, church, temples and even the ngo's) can unite to bring Justice. Then send these copies of signatures to the Chief Minister, Human Rights Commission and if need be to the Prime Ministers Office. Let us unite for a just cause.

It's such an inhuman act... Hitting girls is Indian culture is it? If these Dals n Senas only punish people why do we actually need law, lawyers n courts? This is worst than terrorism... We are living in 21st century, women have excelled in every field competing with Men. When these activists attack the women why do they forget that even their sister, mother n wife are women? Do they treat them also this way is the primary question?

Sandeep,

Mr. Prajwal, Udupi seems like lost his balance of mind and dont understand the logic. He even don't know what is "right". Every reader has a right of giving his opinion in public forum and you too have it Mr. Prajwal. Most of the readers here not depending rave party. But they are condemning the way the attackers molested and physically abused the girls and even the boys. Nobody have this right. Don 't just just quote Sama-Dhana-Bedha-Dhanda as I am sure you don't know beyond this about Philosophy. One must have authority to use Dhanda like parents or teachers or police etc. Molesters are just like animals.

Where, what and how they celebrate a birthday party is none of your business. As long as it is legal (which it is under the Indian constitution - you might want to go back to your books), noone has the right to stop them. What is illegal is the attack on those boys and girls. If your daughter "fooled" you and went for a birthday party with alcohol and this incident happened - would you want her to cover her face from the media or not? Stop thinking from a 3rd class mentality, then maybe you will have smarter comments to make here. Thanks.

Those activists have no right to abuse those girls like that and no right to enter and invade their privacy. What the kids did is normal behavior for this day and age and I don't think anybody has the right to judge them. What the so called activists did were far worse than what the kids did. The kids were just acting their age. This goes n everywhere in the world. Those ******* activists should be arrested for life for mishandling those girls. Reshmi Salian, Mangalore attacking on women is wrong, but the girls accused are also not saints or sati savitries. They were half naked caught red handed with boys who were also half handed. Is that way the birthday celebrations done ?? I have seen here most of people commenting like innocent girls. Now i have to ask them what's the meaning of the word innocent that they are relating to this incident. I would say that innocent girls never go to such parties. Our media channels are just showing one sided story here.

The so called Resort is not a Resort.,, it is a private property, a guest house. Trespassing this property is punishable offence. Police need to check and confirm if this celebration is Rave Party, Not the TeeVee guys and Hindustan guys. Create some Employment and 50 guys will be busy slogging for their sisters and mothers. Learn to Live and Let Live. Learn Basics.

"The partying devils deserve much more." - Really? What sins they have committed? That they partied within the four walls of private resort and bought drinks with their money? Or was it becoz girls were wearing tank tops and short pants? Or was it becoz they were making out? Where, in which bible/Gita or consitution it is written that an adult should not indulge in above activities? Tomorrow, I can barge into your family wedding and say that you are indulging in 'immoral' activites, becoz 'I' think its is immoral, and thrash you up. How does that sound?

"Why are they spoiling our city and our children? Any answers?" - Is your culture/upbringing so fragile, that some innocent girls/boys partying hard in private property can ruin it! Is your culture/tradition so easily influenced and changed? Definetly, you are not a Hindu! Hinduism withstood many assaults over thousand of years. Yet, it is flourishing today!
"..there is no fear from anybody, not from parents, police nor the society." - So,you believe we need to instill fear in people to follow dharma and Tradition of India. Not by Faith!

"I appreciate the good work done by the vigilants. Thanks a million for sacrificing for the well being of the society." - Get the defintion of 'Good-work' correct. The good work would be, if you can save millions of girls getting trafficking every day, if you can get good health care, clean drinking water, electricity, sanitation and basic human needs, that we, as Human beings deserve!

"PLEASE BE REST ASSURED THAT THEY WILL NEVER HARM ANYBODY IF NO ANTI SOCIAL ACTIVITY IS DONE." -Wait, till they show up at your door tomorrow and ask you for money(or 'Hafta')And when you fail to pay them, they will bring hordes of media people and beat you black and blue, becos you were an Immoral being with no sense of "culture" and "tradition."
"these girls' and boys'parents should be hammered."-You should be hammered with some sense.Get out of your well and see the world.

Some people are wrongly commenting. HJV have not molested anyone here. They just dispersed people by pulling them.

When police failed to take action against such illegal activities even after repeated complaints from them and locals, it was inevitable for HJV to get into action.

As per Hindu culture we need to respect women. I do agree. We need to respect janani, karunamayi, annadate etc. But surely not these kind of women. These girls are doing illegal, bad activities and spoiling our culture, morality of our society.

JAI HO HJV. We are very proud of you.

Now uneducated morons are teaching us 'Indian Culture'.

Barging into a Birthday party, Molesting women, physically assaulting everyone in sight is called 'Indian Culture'. From their faces itself one can make out they drink on a daily basis, probably assault their wives also as frequently and they are supposed to be teaching more educated people how to live their lives? What have these 'activists' achieved in their own life to go around bossing ppl around?

Our wonderful Mangalorean police needs orders from DCM to arrest these 'Activists' but they have no problem arresting the victims for having a birthday party. Do we now have to take police permission / protection to have a birthday party? Is consuming alcohol made illegal in Mangalore?

Why didn't the activists take Police with them along with the media? Just so that they could grope and molest these girls?

Why cant we have a law that gives liberty to police to just arrest all these 'Activits' if they get physical?

Finally, I just hope people realize this is not a religious issue. 'Hindu Janajagrana Vedike' should realize they are bringing bad name to the Hindu society by participating in such activities. I hope these activists are put behind bars. Or atleast make their Names, Addresses and Birthdays public. We can arrange a 'surprise' party for each and one of them.

First of: PRIVATE PARTY..

Its a freaking PRIVATE PARTY... It was only publicized when this freaking video and incident happen. HOW IS IT AFFECTING OTHER FAMILIES AND CHILDREN OF MANGALORE?!!?!?!?! Please explain...

2nd: WHAT is the freaking CREED of India?!?!? "All Indians are my brothers and sisters..." Am I wrong?!?! If your sister is being beaten up by and exposed in this manner, you are okay with it?

3rd: MANHANDLING women in EVERY other part of the world is called "Sexual Assault" regardless of their situation.

4th: Prakash/Bangalore - YOU SHOULD CHECK yourself BOY.. this is the 22nd CENTURY... WHAT KIND OF FREAKING culture is this?!?!? WHAT DOES THIS VIDEO or this EVENT show about the "Indian CULTURE"?!

All in all people, if children want to be stupid, and want to do these things, NO AMOUNT of exposure is going to make that right. I'll bet you at least one our these four girls, will end up committing suicide and/or will somehow ruin their life for good.

LAST point I WANT TO MAKE and this is directly addressing the vigilantes and their supporters.. GO HOME... RAISE YOUR OWN EFFEN DAUGHTERS !!!

Gandhi is highly praised all around the world for his wise words, while Indians seek to disregard him as a man of many flaws.. freaks.. Gandhi said.. if you want to change the world, you should start with yourself.. GO HOME TO YOUR OWN FREAKING FAMILIES! this is outrageous!

If they want to "PROTECT" the Indian Culture, why not start with the tens and thousands of young children who are homeless in mangalore? why not start with feeding them? why not start with educating them? why not?

Because its is easy to turn to violence and it requires less effort.

CHECK YOURSELVES !

Whoever oppose this birthday party and if they think it is not right then they cannot just attack this people. If they think this should not happen then let them protest or attack all the wine shops and bar owners so that no one can buy alcohol or protest against liqueres to be banned in the city. They have no guts to do this coz most of the bar owners is from ....... think or find out who are they. Its not any party, its just some gooondas taking advantage from girls after they consumed alcohol. so dear party leaders donot appreciate this kind of acts in the city.Arrest those goondas and find out who is behind this act so that you will come to know the truth. Police are just scared they cannot do proper decition so they arrested girls not the goondas>>>>> I just want to advise all the parents pls. takecare of your children.

I think this attack on these kids is disgraceful. I would suggest public to form a party to teach these goons a fitting lesson. Now you have identified them from their photos, catch them one by one and teach them a lesson to show what happens when you molest a woman.

it is very shameful to see educated youth behave in such a barbaric way.they are a clear example of 'waste of country's resource'.to see even educated threaten the dignity of women is disgusting, they are a threat to public security, and i fell that there is a need to send them to rehabitation center. Also if the resort cannot ensure security of its guest it should not RENT IT OUT,they should pay compensation for both physical and mental harm.
TO ALL THE GIRLS OUT THERE if you are ever faced in such a situation DO NOT PANIC,in this case use the items(furniture, vases, glass etc)around you to defend yourself and frighten the attacker,IT WILL WORK
i request the media to publish the biodata of these barbarians so that locals will know who their families are and be saved from getting their daughters married to these families.MEN ATTACTING MEN IS 'COMMON' BUT WHEN MEN ATTACT WOMEN IT SHOWS A BAD UPBRINGING,AND IT SHOWS THAT THEY ARE NOT TAUGHT 'RELIGIOUS'AND MORAL VALUES.
I ask HJV is ATTACKING AND ASSULTING WOMEN WHAT HINDUISM TEACHES? IF NO THEN PLEASE DO NOT USE THE RELIGION'S NAME AND'SPOIL IT'.

Deborah Dalmeida, Mangalore/Antigua
Sunday, July 29, 2012

To all you hypocrites who have appreciated these religious bigots for their so called "sacrifice " and "heroism", I have a few questions to ask:
1. Since when has Mangalore become the fiefdom of Hindu Janajagarana vedike?
2. Who has appointed them custodians of the so called "culture"?
3. Is there something called Manglorean culture. If yes, who has the right to define it?
4. Do you think assaulting women is the answer to "protecting " your culture.Hmmm...i wonder how does that achieve the purpose?
5. Oh yes, you think beating up one will deter the others, sorry you're living in a fool's paradise. In this era of globalisation and information explosion, do you think you will be able to keep "your women" insulated and untouched by its influence? Go build an igloo!
6. The last time I checked we were still a democracy where free speech and freedom of choice is the right of every individual. Who gave you the right to decide for another? Are you above the law?
7.How dare you touch a woman against her will and believe that the same fate does not await one of your own sisters or daughters?
8. To all those people who think beating up these activists is the answer to the menace, I have one final question- if you support "eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth", what is the difference between us and them? By supporting a law that was propunded by Hammurabi centuries ago, we are only regressing back into time not progressing. This is the most lamentable fact.

Basil, Mangalore

What is the difference between Guwhaiti incident and this one from Mangalore. The activists are taking advantage of the situation. This is not less then attempt of rape in the name of culture. Shame to this Govt and to the legal protectors(Police) of this country. what a stupid law we have.

Prajwal, Udupi

All are turning a blind eye on the main point in the article

"The locals also accompanied the Vedike actvists. They said that they had been complaining about the party even before but no action was taken, after which they approached the activists"

So it was not just HJV but the action of the local people...It is the inaction of the authority which prompted locals to take law into their hands...

People watch the movie "A Wednesday" and praise Nasiruddin Shah -a common man killing terorists when govt. doesnot act...here same logic...when police doesnot act people take law into their hand.

If the first case was not bad ...second case should also not be bad

From the pics above we can see a topless man, scantily dressed girls , alcohol etc...this directly points to some illegitimate activities...First check if the people consuming alcohol were above legal age of drinking....

Who gave rights to the readers hear to shout at HJV and threaten them ...its the police duty ...in the same way as controlling illegal activities in party was police duty.

For drinking-partying etc girls are equal to men....if they are hit you say it is not hindu/Indian culture ... people must first decide if they want follow western culture or Indian culture ....else it will be opportunism ...

By the way in Indian culture we have a philosophy Sama-Dhana-Bedha-Dhanda

This incident does not reflect a good image of Mangalore to the outside world.
If something is wrong, situation needs to be handled delicately and in a dignified manner. Activists were manhandling/pulling/beating the girls/boys. Girls were in a miserable situation and very scared. This is not acceptable and should not have happened. There are better ways to educate people.
Request Daijiworld to elaborate (provide more information) on why and what the local residents were complaining..? and whom they complained before approaching activists..? Was there any disturbance to local residents..?
Hope not to get this kind of news again.

Very sad what had happened..i feel really pity on all who were partying there. specially girls who were hit by these hindu activists (animals). who has given the right to give them to hit & take all the actions? why the police did not arrest any one of the activists? its has been becoming difficult to live a normal life in mangalore.coz of these hindu activists, these kind of acts do only uneducated ,uncultured, pigs do this.girls fight for your rights..guys protects your girls
around you. hope there will be a solution on this act.please punish the people who hits these innocent girls.. i get tears when i see this.god protect them.

Both the sides are at fault. Two wrongs won't become a right. However, it is very funny not to show the faces of the girls and boys fully. If they have not committed any wrong, why one should hide their identity? The partying devils deserve much more. Where are they from? Are they Mangaloreans or from outside? Why are they spoiling our city and our children? Any answers?

These evil souls corrupt our society because there is no fear from anybody, not from parents, police nor the society.

I appreciate the good work done by the vigilants. Keep it up guys. Thanks a million for sacrificing for the well being of the society.

For those who are worried: PLEASE BE REST ASSURED THAT THEY WILL NEVER HARM ANYBODY IF NO ANTI SOCIAL ACTIVITY IS DONE.

Actually, some times I feel that these girls' and boys' parents should be hammered. Shameless parents.

How can you be so oblivious to everything around you? First of all, it is completely wrong that someone even took pictures of them without their consent. That is not acceptable anywhere. They have the right to cover their faces and just because they have done so does not make their actions illegal. I do not understand why the number of people "partying" is a problem either. What if it was just a close-knit group of friends? How can you be so ignorant? We're trying to move forward in this world. People like you are the reason that Mangalore will never attain a humane society. Fix your damn roads before you try to fix people's actions.
