Mangalore, Jul 28: In an incident that brought back memories of the infamous 2009 pub attack, activists allegedly belonging to Hindu Janajagrana Vedike on Saturday July 28 raided a resort in Padil, and thrashed and slapped girls who were allegedly partying.
The group barged into Morning Mist Home Stay at Padil and reportedly found alcohol and young people dressed indecently. They thrashed and manhandled a group of girls and boys who were at the party.
The activists claimed that those in the party were dancing and were involved in undesirable activities. There were four girls and around four or five boys.
One of the activists was seen slapping and bashing the head of a girl and pulling her roughly even as she tried to escape.
Kankanady rural police rushed to the spot. They took the activists into custody.
Corporator Mohan Padil was also detained and later released.
The locals also accompanied the Vedike actvists. They said that they had been complaining about the party even before but no action was taken, after which they approached the activists
The police later took the boys and girls also into custody for questioning.
This is the second such incident reported in the city in the last three years. In 2009, Mangalore came into national limelight after activists of Sri Rama Sene assaulted girls at a pub in Balmatta. While it was justified as a move to 'protect' Indian culture by the Sene, the incident invited the ire of people across the nation.
Protest
As soon as the news spread, hundreds of people gathered outside the resort and began to protest. They demanded arrest and strict action against the activists.
They also expressed fear that the police would let them go free without taking action.
As the situation went out of control, the police had to use mild lathi charge disperse the crowd.
Mayor Condemns Act
Mangalore mayor Gulzar Banu has angrily reacted to this incident. Speaking exclusively to daiiworld, she said, "Looking at daijiworld news, I am saddened to see people hitting girls. Being a mother, I feel sad that girls are treated like that in our place. Every mother, every brother, every sister will feel this. On the other hand, the resort culture is also not acceptable. Young boys and girls partying in such a way is not acceptable to the society. Resort owners must be held responsbile for this," she said.
Why didn't Hindu activists protest against Udupi rave party? - Mahendra Kumar
Speaking to daijiworld, Mahendra Kumar, former Bajrang Dal president, and now a JD(S) party member criticised Hindu Jagarana Vedike members who attacked girls at the Padil resort. He questioned the same activists and demanded to know why they had not raided the 'Rave party' organised at Malpe in February under the district administration.
"That party was worse than this. If they are really concerned about culture, then they should have treated that incident also in the same way," he said.
He criticised the district administration for failure in law and order. "Government is not serious about tackling these issues," he said.
Congress Demands Release of Girls
The Congress activists protested against the police for taking girls involved in the resort incident into custody.
They headed to Pandeshwar women police station and staged a dharna demanding the immediate release of the girls.
Condemning the incident, they demanded strict action against the activists of Hindu Janajagrana Vedike and said that it is they who should be arrested and not the girls.
"The girls and boys were only having a birthday celebration in the resort, and were not doing anything illegal. Why should they be taken into custody?" they questioned.

If these boys were so concerned about the modesty of these girls they should have covered them with their coats and taken them out from that place instead of making a mess of their descensy. The boys just behaving as if they own them to outrage them brutally.Its disgusting and I could not sleep the whole night seeing these disgusting visuals.They should be severely punished.God save our ladies from these brutal people.

It's outrageous! This mob doesn't even know what is the culture of this land, not to raise hand, harm old, sick, women, children and poor, the mob should be booked for touching these women and slapping them! The resort doesn't even have a security to protect its occupants! If the local's have an issue with a resort being in their locality it should be handled by complaints to municipality (where their own elected officials wouldn't have any problem in allowing the license to such resorts).
Seems like the whole thing is stage managed..there is a scene in the video, where the guy is forcing a person to remove hands over his face so that the video recording person can capture it. Also one of the teens was trying to offer some thing to the police man dragging him inside and was removing something from his pocket....There is nobody around who can protect. Seems like mass strength is greater, all like minded people should come together and put measures in place to prevent such mob massacre. Of course, as a parent, one wouldn't let their college going son/daughter to go stay in a resort with their boy friends and celebrate a birthday party..but as long as they are having a good time without any immoral activity, it should be fine, so you trust you son, daughter to behave! A police officer is entrusted with the duty of protecting the people justly, impartially with integrity and honour. He takes an oath that he will act at all times to the best of his ability and knowledge in a manner befitting a police officer. None of this was evident in the video. In fact it was so painful to see one officer close the door and hit the boy just for saying ‘this is not fair’, while all the time they were treating miscreants like VIPs.

First things first. Whether these incidents or about any unwarranted activities are reported by natives or organizations to local police in writing or not. If yes why police has not taken actions. If actions taken who has taken what action? . If action is not taken then said police inspector is responsible. Even after ineffectiveness of police any group or people have no right to enter any place and attack people. Well those who attacked should be jailed first and then who have done anything wrong should be punished. Entire episode is responsibility of Police and it has failed miserably. These pubs and restaurants should collect the age identification cards of people entering their premises every time. People of age group of 20 only should enter these places. It should be made compulsory.

From what I observed from the visuals, the activists as well as the youngsters are wrong. We should not encourage the youngsters with such activities. If everything goes hidden, then who will detect the wrong doings of these youngsters.It is a message to correct the youth.It was also very wrong on part of the activists to mishandle the young girls, they had no right to touch them, beat them or pull them.

People are fed up with these news daily. To save our girls, society we can not wait for law & police. So now people started to take the law in their hand.
