Udupi: No Compulsion on Temples to Hold Puja for Rains - Kota Srinivas Poojary

Udupi: No Compulsion on Temples to Hold Puja for Rains - Kota Srinivas Poojary

Hemanath Padubidri
Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (RD)

Udupi, Jul 22: Though the muzrai department has been asked to hold pujas for rain in temples across the state, there is no compulsion on any temple to do so, said Kota Srinivas Poojary, minister for muzrai, ports and inland transport.

Poojary was addressing mediapersons after inaugurating his office at Rajatadri, the district administration complex here on Sunday July 22.

"As many as 135 taluks across the state are facing drought. Measures are under way to tackle the situation on war footing. Meanwhile, there is nothing wrong in praying to god for rains. The funds for the puja will not be from the state treasury but from the income earned by the respective temples," he clarified.

"Nearly 25,000 temples are economically well off, and others can hold puja by offering tender coconut or just water. Under the muzrai department, there are 155 temples with an annual income of Rs 25 lac (rated A grade), 143 temples with annual income ranging from Rs 5 lac to Rs 25 lac, while the rest have annual income below Rs 5 lac. The expenses for the state-wide pujas were fixed at Rs 5,000, with a view to prevent temples from holding lavish ceremonies," he said, asserting that he is ready to answer any query from the opposition parties in the assembly in this regard.

Meeting with port officials

"A meeting will be scheduled with port officials in Bangalore on Tuesday July 24 to discuss port issues and developmental works in the district. State funds will be sought for developmental works of ports and to undertake temporary measures to curb sea erosion. Concrete measures in this regard will be taken by carrying out works under ADB," said Srinivas Poojary.

He sought the help of officials, political parties and the general public in the development of the district. He also assured that he would be available at his office in the district head quarters either for a day or half a day a week.

BJP veteran leader Somashekar Bhat inaugurated the minister’s office here on Sunday morning.

MLA K Raghupati Bhat, MLA Lalaji R Mendon, Deputy Commissioner Dr M T Reju, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar, zilla panchayat CEO S A Prabhakar Sharma, ZP president Katpady Shankar Poojary, TP president Devdas Hebbar, BJP district president K Uday Kumar Shetty, Gujjady Prabhakar Nayak, Upendra Nayak and others were present.

Prayers can do wonders. We do believe, but why pay such a huge amount towards Pooja's? God listens to our prayer if we do it with FAITH, even without spending any money. Poojari, spend that money for the betterment of the people of Karnataka. If you wish give your own personal money and perform pooja.

How is prayer going to get any rain????
Spend time in thinking of alternatives like conserving water if there is going to be shortage of water due to less rain.

Do not spend tax payers money for prayers in Temples, mosques or churches!!!!!

It surely seems we are moving backwards in our thinking.

If prayer can solve this issue then it can solve corruption also!! Pray that there will not be any corruption!!!!! why do we need people fighting for it. Why did we need independence we could have just prayed for it..

Grow up guys!!! we need actions not prayers to solve our problems.

Well said shahnawaz kukkikatte, dubai/udupi, it is true instead of going to temple let them repent for the miss use of tax payers money and sincerely pay from their pockets. No they realise God when there is a drough, or else they are in their own sweet world. how could one say offer prayers in temple for rain??, we as public can also say we dont want Govt in KArnataka we pray to God he will look after us. does it make any sense?? first do good than only GOD blesses.Even God by now may be fed up of these poojas for every now and than.

these days lots of crimes on religions in DK. destroying the church and mosques by the name of Ramasene and Bajarang Dal. Of course, god is unhappy and god is one to every religion. So, respect all the religions culture and be peacefully. I hope cow sacrifising will not involved in this pooja for rain.i request all the DK people to respect every religion and culture. RAin will pour like shower

BJP IS A GONE GONE PARTY. LOOKING AT ALL THE DISLIKES AND ANTI COMMENTS IN MOST OF THE FORUM. I THINK BJP WILL ONLY GET 2 VOTES (YOU GUESSED WHO!!). SO DONT WORRY PEOPLE, BJP IS SECURED IN LOOSING VOTES. BJP HAS ALREADY CAUSED LOSSES IN MILLIONS TO THE COMEDY TV INDUSTRY BY EXIBITING STIFF COMPETITION WITH THE PAID COMEDY ACTORS AND FOR FREE!! NEXT TIME WE NEED TO LAUNCH THE NEW FREE CHANNEL BJP CHANNEL (BHARI JOKES PRESENTATION) CHANNEL. SO BJP LOOT WHAT YOU CAN NOW FOR YOU WONT STAY THERE LONG. JAI HO CONGRESS.

I think rain will start coming in temple area only, not near the Churches & MOQUES ETC like Holy places .

There is no need to hold any pooja. All politicians and babus of our state must sincerely repent for their wrong doings and pray God to accept their repentance, then I am sure rain will pour down from heaven... Draught is nothing but the wrath of God on us for wrong doings/sins.

After performing POOJA at temples people started getting boredom by the incessant rain in Belgaum and other parts of Karnataka. People are saying for two days we could hardly go out and normal life has been disrupted. This is the reaction and GOD himself is getting confused.

People,

They could have made a Puja for rain, there(DC Offce) itself since Purohith was already there.....

Also s special Puja should be held at BJPs office to help BJP leaders to talk sense and act sensibly....

Please give equivalent to other religions too to pray for rains, like mosques, churches, Jain mandirs, black magicians, etc so that all religions are treated equally. Also some to the babus who can make drought disappear by forging the documents.

Well-done Kota Srinivas Poojary. Please sanction Rs.50 crores for the said purpose which sanctioned earlier for Christian Development Fund. These people still unaware of there own religion because they jump into bandwagon in the middle.

In Hinduism Lord Varuna is a god of the sky, of water and of the celestial ocean. Lord Indra the god of thunderstorms. Angel Mikail - in Islam is often depicted as the Archangel (Saint Michael-in Christanity) of mercy who is responsible for bringing rain and thunder to Earth.

If they do not need 'rain' let us inform our priests not to pour in the region of Kinnigoli/Damaskatte/Belman/Shirva-Manchkal/Kallianpura/Puttur/Suratkal/Uchila/Ullal. Let them struggle for 'water' in coming days.

Poojary said "State funds...of ports
AND TO TAKE TEMPORARY MEASURES TO CURB SEA EROSION"
Then he says CONCRETE MEASURES in this regard will be taken..."
Wonder what he really wants to say - a PH D person trying to con people. It is better for him to openly say that he is here to pocket money allotted to such made up developments!!!
You are a cheat/humbug and not any less than Yeddy/etc in your BJP
i hope IT czars/Medical Tzars etc take notice of it.
Highly educated is something but blindly following by these highly qualified dumbos is something that is not acceptable.

Inexperience in handling ministerial portfolio warranted this corrective statement from KOTA.Karnataka facing one of the harshest drought situation which needs billions of rupees for drinking water, fodder to animals etc..These ministers even have not average knowledge & presence of mind. This is not the time for felicitations/HAARA TURAI and DUNDUVECHAS. Exhibit minimum respect to the pulse of Karnataka. The way BJP newly inducted ministers are acting like an LAUGHING STOCK.PRAYING FOR RAIN IS GOOD OLD PRACTICES FROM ALL RELIGIONS CONCERNED.SHOULD KOTA ASKED ALL (RELIGIOUS) COMMUNITIES TO PRAY FOR RAIN,IT WOULD HAVE BEEN APPROPRIATE.

Same drama but new face (minister)...!!!???

Siva Avadani, Manipal/Dubai
Sunday, July 22, 2012

I think he realized his first wrong decision after getting power. He should have request all people of Karnataka including Temples,Mosques,Churches and all prayer houses to hold prayer for rain, why spend 18 crores, when the rain is the need of all people. Now lesser the temples more balance money will go to their personal pockets, what a politrics.

Congratulations ! I hope Poojary will become the Prime Minister so that we can ask all temples in India to pray for all our problems to be solved - economic, social - and who knows may be international as well. Jai Ho !

We appreciate your steps of offering pooje at 35,000 state temples at a time. God will surely listen to mass prayers and shover his blessings in the form of rain. Don't listen to some pseudos who are against this pooja.

We are also happy about your vision on ports development, prevention of seashore erosion etc. We need young, energetic, dynamic, strong, people friendly leaders like you to development of our district and state. We udupians are very proud of you. God bless you.
