NCW Chairperson Meets Gogoi on Molestation Case

Guwahati, Jul 18 (IANS): Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW) Mamata Sharma Wednesday met Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi over the G.S. Road molestation of a teenage girl here July 9.

The NCW chairperson also met the victim at her residence in the city.

Sharma urged the chief minister to provide all required help to the girl in terms of security and medical care.

She also suggested setting up a special fast track court to hold trial in the case.

Expressing concerns over security of women in the city, NCW chairperson asked Gogoi to increase police patrolling on the streets, particularly during the night time to stop recurrence of similar incidents in future.

A group of men publicly molested and stripped a teenage girl outside a pub in this main city of Assam July 9. The incident created a country-wide furore after the video clip of it was telecast and the visuals went viral on the internet.

A total of 12 people have so far been arrested in connection with the incident, while a search is on for prime accused Amarjyoti Kalita.
