Two Arrested for Smuggling Liquor into Maharastra

Panaji, July 11 (IBNS) During a surprise check on vehicles at Patradevi check-post Wednesday evening, Pernem Police seized 338 liquor cartons from a truck and arrested two persons for trying to smuggle alcohol out of Goa.

The value of the bottles is estimated around Rs 1.86 lakh.

The police team, acting on a tip-off, intercepted the Maharashtra-registered truck at the check-post bordering Maharashtra.

On checking the vehicle, the team found 150 boxes of Honey Guide Brandy Pouches, 160 boxes of National Doctor Brand, 12 boxes of Bagpiper Classic Whisky and 16 boxes of Imperial Blue Whisky and Mc Dowels No.1 celebration.

Truck driver Ganesh Narvekar (24) and occupant Rajaram Kudtarkar (33), both hailing from Sindhudurg, Maharashtra were arrested for the offense.

A probe has been launched to find out from which store the liquors were purchased as the accused men did not posses any bill or permit to transport the liquor boxes outside the state.
