Bangalore: Sadananda Gowda Resigns as CM, Supporters Seek to Prevent him

Bangalore: Sadananda Gowda Resigns as CM, Supporters Seek to Prevent him

Bangalore, Jul 11 (PTI):
Ending his 11-month tenure, D V Sadananda Gowda today resigned as Karnataka Chief Minister, paving the way for Jagadish Shettar to take over, but not before dramatic scenes were witnessed with his supporters trying to physically prevent him from stepping down.

Accompanied by some Ministers, Gowda met Governor H R Bhardwaj at Raj Bhavan and submitted his resignation. He informed him about the election of Shettar as leader of the BJP Legislature party at its meeting here yesterday.

Earlier as he set out from his residence "Anugraha", his supporters, raising slogans, made a forceful bid to prevent him from submitting his resignation.

They demanded that he continue in office. Some of them also squatted on the road to block his car. Police used force to evict them. Gowda sought to pacify them and later left the residence but said he would tender his resignation.

Gowda's supporters had also gathered outside Raj Bhavan, but the police intervened to clear the way for him.

Chief Minister-designate Shettar also met the Governor and staked claim to form the Government. He is scheduled to be sworn in as Chief Minister tomorrow.

Speaking to reporters at his residence, Gowda said he had faith in the party's central leadership and that they would meet the demands of his supporters.
Gowda also said his supporters should cooperate with him and should not be disappointed by his submitting resignation.

With the Vokkaliga-Lingayat caste equations holding sway, Shettar's election as BJP Legislature party leader yesterday came after last minute muscle flexing by MLAs loyal to Gowda who initially refused to attend the meeting unless their demands were met.

They demanded an assurance from the leadership that the state unit party presidentship would be given to him and Deputy Chief Ministership to state unit chief K S Eshwarappa and at least 20 ministerial berths.

The BJP leadership had on Sunday opted for a change in leadership in Karnataka and got Gowda to quit to be replaced by Jagadish Shettar, caving in to pressure from former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa who wanted a fellow Lingayat in the saddle.

People,

BJP high command(?) should inform people of Karnataka reasons for removing DVS from CMs post.

If not people of Karnataka will give a fitting reply to them in next assembly elections.

Its sad to see these corrupt to the core CONgress folks returning to power.....

If somebody wants to dig their own grave,,, nobody else could do anything.

This guy Gadkari is unfit to be BJP President,,, I wont give him even "Dog Walkers" job...RSS will have to pay a very high price for making him BJP president sooner or later....

DVS is one of the best CM we ever had in our state. If few ministers did not respect him, it is their attitude or ego problem. But DVS had great respect from all people of state.

Weakest PM is your Manamohan Sing. Only his ministers respects him. People have no respect to this weak PM. Even TIME magazine has called him UNDER-ACHIEVER.

This is the truth. Don't feel bad Louis.

This is all drama by the party - it has made rest of the communities look foolish.I am a BJP supporter but this is something i never thought will happen in this party. Wondering if Mr.Gowda too was riding the wave rather than fight the cause. Now it is b/w 2 castes and its supporters - what about others in the state? We all should teach such useless leaders (so called) a good lesson

sorry to see the fate of our Govt. and the collapse of administration in the state. BJP groups are rejoicing from yesterday for victory. i dont knw with whom this victory they got??? Is it a musical chair victory? may be within few months one more victory celebration for winner of next musical chair game. or is it a victory of north karnataka against DK? Looks like politically BJP is now bankcrupt and can give nothing to the people of Karnataka. They have spent most of their time in Star Hotels than in Govt. offices in the last 4years. If this continues then very soon Karnataka will reach back to 20th century. Are we choosing right person to govern us??

Though BJP betrayed DVS, DVS didnt betray his party. He is loyal and faithful BJP politician. He remained calm throughout the turmoil and exited with too much grace and honor..He is not power hungry... |Others should learn a lesson from DVS. Yeddy is unfit to be a human being....DVS will be remembered in the history of karnataka as most obedient party worker and most clean and respectable politician. May Lord give him good health and long life. We really miss you DVS sir.....

Surprising that DVS has still faith in party, he says so because he has to say something, This is what we call ion, then why they hold Election, let them do ion when and where they wish to, It is for people to decide of who the Chief Minister should be and why are they so eager to pass on the CM’s chair to one by one ministers, Is it all the ministers will get chance to become CM? We people are the government country runs because of people and not because of ministers. Public should be provided with all their individual expenditures, as we have right to know how and where our money is spend by the ministers.

Dear DVS.
You ruled the state cleanly without any corruption and so the corrupt officers couldnt make any scams because of your strict administration and not giving any income portfolios to others. Still you are telling that you have faith in BJP and the high command. Which high command you are speaking about. There is only one high command in BJP and that is SCAM/(SHAMEFUL) YEDDI who can turn the government in his finger tips. Thank got that there is only 1 year left for BJP otherwise Shettar would follow your own path and SHOBA the next CM. Anyways continue your good works and work for the state and not for the caste or Party. Good Luck and Best wishes.

When Mr.Gowda became Cm made by Yeddyurappa he never thought of differenciate of cast. Mr.Gowda should have been resign when 6 months tenure completed which were agreed. Why so long another 5 months to resign because of pressure from like Mr.Ananth Kumar's politics. Now Mr.Gowda's party men need big share in ministerial berthing.. this politics, not caste system. Public should think before having demonstration for the cast system. After resignation Mr.S.Gowda was telling there is no problem in party and we have to work together for the sake party.. How common man can trust these politicians...

Chief ministers have become Cheap ministers now. DVS was very week CM of all time. None of his ministers respected him. His political career has come to an end like Yeddy. Shettar will show his colors very soon. Yeddy will repent for his second mistake.

Finally Drama comes to an end but don’t know when new drama will starts. Jagadish shetter CM place for hours, days or months? Finally people of Karnataka suffered a lot due to all these crisis . So better we have to think twice while voting next time. Any way Yeddy & chelas had a electric shock after yesterdays protest and support of DVS MLS’s . Now he will think 100 times to take next steps.

Sachidanand Shetty, Mundkur/Dubai
Wednesday, July 11, 2012

DVS withheld the respects of Party Orders and CM Post too. But it is very sad to see Yeddy formed his Filthy Team to topple DVS though he was giving pure and non-corrupt administration ever since he has been decorated with CM Post. Being a member of Coastal Region, we should stop respecting Yeddy & Team whenever they come to our region for any formal or non-formal functions. DVS should come back to his native place to do some agricultural works by switching or disconnecting his all communications with State Officials and Central BJP Leaders not even to attend swear in function too. DVS should take some long time rest and let Central BJP Leaders should go to his native place with new respectable position in Party Cadres

Mitwa, Sharjah

No doubt, that BJP High command removed DVS unceremoniously, but DVS will be remembered for giving good and corruption less governance.

BJP problems are never ending, as they have to decide on Dy.CM and other ministerial berths when their in-fighting is at its peak

As per aggreement made between Mr.Yeddyurappa and Mr. S.Gowda, He should have been resign when 6 months completed. But he continued by force from Mr.Ananth Kumar. Here caste system does not arise. When Mr.Gowda became CM Yeddyurappa did not think of cast. Now why people are thinking about cast system?. As per promise Mr. Gowda has to resign. Why this high drama occured?. Just because for hungry power like putting pressure on high command in order to get main minister posts.
