Mangalore: MCC Officials Raid Hostels, PGs, Warn Owners

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (NM)

Mangalore, Jul 2: In yet another raid, the officials of Mangalore City Corporation swooped down on student hostels and paying guest facilities in Kodial Bail and Bejai areas here on Monday July 2.

The offficials raided four hostels - three in Kodialbail and another in Bejai. However, when they arrived at Besant hostel they found it to be closed already.

The officials raided the hostel of Expert PU College, as a girl student in the hostel had recently died of dengue. When the officials raided they place, they found that it was running without a valid licence and that the kitchen was constructed in the parking area. The officials warned the management to maintain hygiene and cleanliness in the hostel if they wanted to continue to run the hostel.

They also raided A 'n' Z paying guest running in the first floor of a building in Bejai. The officials found the PG in a deplorable condition with no proper hygiene. They also raided RK Residency in Kodialbail and found it in a similar condition.

As there were students occupying the PGs and hostels, they could not be sealed, and the officials had to let the owners off with a warning.

Speaking to daijiworld, one of the officials said that the raids were conducted as per a decision taken at the recent MCC council meeting. Those who pay domestic tax and run PGs and hostels for commercial purposes, especially without providing proper space, ventilation and maintaining cleanliness were raided.

As malaria and dengue cases are on the increase, those in PGs and hostels with symptoms of these diseases will be medically tested, the official said.

It is the duty of every citizen to keep the surrounding clean. We cannot blame the Govt. We have seen in Mangalore, inspite of providing dustbins(I donot know how often they are cleared. sometimes it is impossible to walk on the roads because of the stinking garbage) citizens keep the garbage near others compound wall or on the roads(drainage). we should improve and not the MCC. MCC should try to clear the garbage and the overflowing drainage and the roads.39008930

There is a very good reason for the very un-hygienic conditions in Mangalore city - especially around all hotels/eateries/hostels and various other places.
First and foremost reason for this is the congested/overflowing/blocked sewages. Whatever washed/cleaned goes to the sewage and overflows in around those places, making the place dirty and foul smelling. If the MCC does not maintain these gutters/sewers, it is not the fault of the people. Everyone pays taxes and as such it is the fault of MCC for not maintaining. They just cannot blame hotel.hostels etc etc for that. If & when they provide proper facilities, then let them check/raid and punish the transgressors. Not when they are the transgressors!!!

Mr. Narenda Nayak with due respect to your Institution and the clarification given by you. You need to improve the quality and approcah of your staff at your office at Kodial Bail. I was told and I have personally experienced that their gunda type approach towards the parents seeking admission and postal coaching is really a matter of concern as it will spoil your name. I myself had to put my children in Mahesh College and a handful are on their way to Mahesh....Plz look into this matter., which one day you have to pay a huge price again.

pls note that Photos Published here are not at all of Expert Hostels. Also pls note that not even a single student of expert Hostel died till now. Its totally wrong information by MCC officials and this information is given by them to get cheap publicity. Our hostels are neatly maintained and good hygenic food is provided to the students everyday. The girl who died due to Dengue fever is a locallite and its really disgusting attitude of the MCC officials to use the departed pure soul of a child to tarnish the image of a reputed Institution. Pls dont get carried away by their statements atleast about our hostels..I want to make it clear that a well designed Health programme by MCC for the betterment of Mangalore city is misutilised by few of the MCC officials for their personal gains.

When will we realise that we should first push for hygeine in our reforms educate people about hygeine. As a country we totally lack all these. even the drs clinics dont follow proper full proof hygeine. the cooks have to be educated about hygeine. its the basic need of the hour, simple having technology and being the It capital will not help to be called a developed country.etiquette is most important.

The MCC officials has done a good job of raiding the hostels in Bejai. Only warning is not enjoy they should have put a penalty. The MCC should keep a watch on them and monthly inspection should be conducted.

If you were to say, the camel thinks its tail is most beautiful, it would be more funny, regarding donkey, everyone knows what it thinks. However I had a good laugh reading your comments. Thank you.

One of the bodies of the UN had conducted a survey, and it was according to their findings Ksa ranked no 1 in house cleanliness and India in the last position.

Whats the use of these raids? recent days so many raids but anything good came out of it? surprisingly those who are staying in these hostels and pg's seems to be comfortable! if not such a pathetic state some are in then why we never heard anything? pg's and hostels must be raided regularly and if the strict guidlines are not followed on cleanlines and other hygine then they must be told to close down immidietly

Keep up the good work MCC - be fair, be bold, be ethical, and most important don't fear politicians.

A picture says more than a thousand words. What is seen is disgusting and pathetic. People involved in this business just make money with help of authorities.

It looks like a Khairnar(who cleansed Mumbai)works for MCC
Good luck

Expert college, don't they admit students who have scored above 90% or 95% academically to their institute, they charge a bomb where hostel fee is concerned and what have we here, a breeding ground for all diseases, student dying due to dengue...why does one have to blame officials...why does N.Frank say taht KSA ranks No 1 in cleanliness, because if you are not clean in that country you are beheaded or excecuted...do not put a blame game on any govt, ruling party or senas....just get responsible and HUMAN...

By seeing these pictures, I feel lucky that i stayed at home all thru my education period with encouraging homely atmosphere and homely food. But just feel bad for the students who come from far off places away from their dear ones to feed on the poor quality food and poor abode.I appreciate such raids from MCC and it should go on. And for those pessimists who see wrong in all the raids conducted by MCC - if u r so worried about MCC conducting raids assuming the money game behind it- instead of unnecessarily posting unproductive negative comments- if possible prove your stand and post ur deeds that has contributed to the society.

Whatever may be individual opinions of people about this matter.I fully endorse the move taken by MCC officials. If it is only for political mileage/gain then it is totally absurd. If the move is really result oriented then it is highly appreciable and commendable from hygienic point of view. This should be periodic/surprise and obviously violators should be strictly punished/penalized without any hesitation regardless of their party affiliation, status etc.If you visit any one of the restaurants, hotels,PG accommodations, hostels hygienic conditions are very deplorable. These are money oriented businesses at the cost of poor students, people and paying guests. They are not at all provided with basic amenities, proper food etc.Even if you visit their kitchens, places where utensils are being washed/cleaned are all in very pathetic conditions. These are all sign of greed for money at the cost of public health. When they are taking money from the public owners of the above said outlets must give some attention towards basic requirements.Simply charging and treating human beings like animals is not good and healthy sign.Hence I appreciate personally the move taken by MCC officials and I encourage such moves in the future also where public hygiene is concerned. Can't imagine even the place of stay like animal hut, food preparation kitchen area,dish/utensils washing area, grocery storing area etc really astonishing.Well Done MCC officials, keep on doing and set the things in right condition. All the best. There should be some fear in the mind of owners of the above establishments/outlets.Money is not everything, beyond money there are many other things to be followed.I am not belonging to any political party for your information.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Keep up the good work and increase the pressure! The people pay so much and are taken for a ride!
It is vital that you also include hostels, old age homes, canteens and so on too to make things better. Widen the net also to make sure that regulations on charges and service delivery is included for inspection and rope in the 'consumer Fora' too for a better case! ALL THE BEST!!-ijss.

MCC's raid is appropriate but why they are taking Press people with them?It should be routine and kept visiting randomly.

If the std specified rules of hygienic and environmental health implemented in it's true sense, then I think it is very difficult for Eateries like PG/Hostel/Mess to survive in the business.

Hostels are a MESS for this outbreaks, going thru' the past we can c that hostels are the breeding place for Mosquitoes, I don't no y the management of hostels r not looking into the basics of health & hygine of students.

Expert College seems to be the best in education but the college seems to be too conjusted and using the parking place for cooking and washing... making money for Expert has become one of the business for them...

Mangalore tops the list in Maleria in India. Make free Mangalore from all diseases.

Give awareness to all Institutions and hostels.

Mr. Rakesh Shetty, don't mis-understand for everything. As we can c from photos the officials are checking the quality of food, sanitation and health of all the PGs, Hostels etc., you should encourage them for doing it. But it seems you r playing party game here.

If one official is caught by lokayuktha, then if they carry on the same corruption then they will be definitely be the next target for lokayuktha.

But u should appreciate the work that MCC is doing.

This is the sorry state of MOST hostels in Mangalore. I do not know why managements cannot maintain basic hygiene in the hostels. The mess appears to be in a real MESS. Is this too much to ask? I have a gut feeling that there must be an outbreak of a food borne illness in Mangalore, something that SUDDENLY forced the MCC into action.

The MCC officials should first raid their own homes and see how clean they are, the phtotographs of their houses should then be published across the city, as a exihibition of cleanliness.

Cleanliness, should start from homes. If homes are kept clean, the city will be clean.

Houses in India are supposed to be, one of the most uncleanest in the civilised world. Houses in Ksa rank no 1 as far as clenliness is concened.
