Panaji: Five Arrested in Goa Woman Murder

Panaji, Jun 21 (IBNS): South Goa police have arrested two underage grandsons suspected of killing their grandmother in Velim village last month.

Three others including another minor boy have been arrested for conniving with the grandsons to execute the fatal robbery in the house of 65-year-old Linda Cajetan Andrade.

Police found that duo brothers lived a lavish life and were largely involved in the recently concluded IPL cricket betting.

“The accused wanted money to bet on cricket and for the ongoing Euro Cup. The woman’s murder was a well planned conspiracy. They ensured that their grandfather was not in the house when committing the murder,” Superintendent of Police Arvind Gawas told reporters.

The police had kept a close watch on the boys since the occurrence of the murder on May 11. The juveniles have been remanded to the state run home Apna Ghar whereas the two youths Dattaraj Satoshkar (21) and Alcin Mascarenhas (19) have been remanded to police custody.

Gawas said the boys smothered Linda with a pillow and thereafter decamped with gold jewelries and cash of Rs 4 lakh.

A case under section 302-murder, 454-house trespass and 120 (B)-conspiracy of the IPC have been registered against the accused boys.

Director General of Police Kishan Kumar has announced a reward money of Rs 15,000 for the investigating team for the breakthrough in the case.
