Sharman's 'Ferrari Ki Sawari' makes Profit

New Delhi, Jun 18 (IANS): "Ferrari Ki Sawari" is Sharman Joshi's first solo hero film and has no female lead, but it has managed to pull in viewers and ended grossing about Rs.14 crore in the first three days of its release.

Made at a budget of Rs.10 crore, including publicity and marketing, the film about father-son relationship has already recovered its cost.

"The film is doing extremely well in all our cinemas. Friday we had around 60 percent occupancy while Saturday-Sunday had over 80 percent occupancy," Anant Verma, director and business head of DT Cinemas, told IANS.

Produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, "Ferrari Ki Sawari" is Rajesh Mapuskar's first directorial venture and hit the screens Friday.

Distributed by Vinod Chopra Productions, it also stars actor Boman Irani and introduces child artist Ritvik Sahore as Sharman's on-screen son.

Said Sanjay Ghai of Mukta Arts: "The film opened with 100 percent occupancy in Delhi multiplexes."

On Friday, the film collected Rs.3.04 crore and the collections increased to Rs.4.5 crore on Saturday and on Sunday it was Rs.6.40 crore, making a total of almost Rs.14 crore.

Apart from the performances, the other highlights of the film are the sequences shot at Lord's Cricket Ground in London, actress Vidya Balan's item number "Mala jao dya na ghari" and the red Ferrari, owned by cricket star Sachin Tendulkar.

"The response was slightly lukewarm on Friday but it picked up on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday we had over 70-72 percent occupancy and was much better on Sunday. We have had largely family audiences, with lots of kids," Gautam Dutta, COO, PVR, told IANS.

In terms of competition at the box office, two entirely different films -- romantic saga "Teri Meri Kahaani" and out-and-out crime thriller "Gangs of Wasseypur" -- are releasing Friday.

So "Ferrari Ki Sawaari" has an entire week to impress the audiences.
