Bangalore: Save Lokayukta Campaign Begins in Karnataka

Bangalore: Save Lokayukta Campaign Begins in Karnataka

Bangalore, Jun 11 (PTI): A 'save Lokayukta' campaign began here today to press for appointment of a Lokayukta in Karnataka.

Several activists participated in the dharna, launched under the banner of Jana Jagruthi Andolana at Freedom Park here, in which veteran freedom fighter H S Doreswamy Iyenger, former Karnataka Lokayukta Santosh Hegde and others took part.

Karnataka unit JDU president Dr M P Nadagouda and former MLC, A K Subbaiah also participated in the dharna, which will be staged till June 16.

Speaking on the occasion Hegde urged the government to appoint a Lokayukta at the earliest and said the institution which fights corruption should not be turned into a 'lame duck'.

The Lokayukta office has remained vacant since about nine months after Shivaraj Patil quit in September 2011 following a controversy over securing allotment of a residential site in his wife's name, which the retired Supreme Court judge surrendered later.

Governor H R Bhardwaj refused to appoint retired judge S R Bannurmath as Lokayukta as he also faced a land allotment controversy.

I have no hope on any organisations/individuals fighting for Lokayukta or in favour of anti cirruption bill. Many participants are making a show off only to be in the news and but biased as far as corruption issue is concerned. As long as Sonia is at the helm of power, persons feel shy to embark on anti corruption campaign for the fear of IT/CBI may target them/their ralatives establishments. In India no bay is free from corruption, only theme differs. This is the real truth.Koyi shak....!!!

Rakesh Shetty, when BJP was in power it was Chaddi Bureau of Investigation and now it is Congress Bureau of Investigation. You did not open your mouth then so why are you complaining now?

SAVE LOKAYUKTA means down BJP GOVT?Then why this Kolavery DI?DVS not corrupt, say his govt @ present is not corrupt..then why adamant in appointing Lokayukta for it's own ion.Why can't Govt give panel of appointees? Why can't sit with Oppn leaders of both house and then forward names to GUV?DVS's integrity is @ stake now.Only 8-9 months left DVS govt need to appoint Lokayukta to boost the morale of the Govt.

Why not ask Justice Hegde to come back and work for another five years. So that none of the parties will blame for his appointment. Why Advani is silent now? he could persuade him earlier and he should ask his BJP government to appoint Hegde again.

BJP simply excuses to appoint Lokayukta for the reason that it is LOKAYUKTA which brought BJP Govt of Karnataka @ it's kneels.DVS,CM of Karnataka, if thinks Karnataka need a strongest/powerful Lokayukta then with out wasting time appoint Lokayukata immediately. On the one hand BJP fights against UPA over the issue of Corruptions and on the other hand it fails to appoint Lokayuktas in Gujarath and Karnataka!!!Is it not double std?Even though appointing Lokayukta is a discretion power of state Govt, it should not be adamant in the ion of Lokayukta instead it should forward panel of Lokayuktas to Governor.
