Doha: Fire Breaks out at Building in Pearl-Qatar, All 39 Workers Rescued

The fire has been completely contained. A total number of 39 workers were rescued once the search operation was over. All are in good condition, the ministry of interior stated.

Update: June 6, 12.25 am IST

Doha, Jun 5: The fire at under-construction building in the Pearl-Qatar is under control. Altogether, 26 workers have been rescued so far and they are in good healthy condition. Remaining are being rescued, stated the ministry of interior.


Earlier news

A massive fire broke out at a building under construction at the Pearl-Qatar here on Tuesday June 5.

Eyewitnesses said that one of the towers at the construction zone is ablaze. Already around 15 ambulances are at the spot. No casualties have been reported so far.

Fire engines too have rushed to the spot and reportedly a crane is being used to evacuate the workers trapped on the upper level through the roof. Choppers too are hovering overhead, sources said.

The fire was at one of buildings under construction in Vivah Bahriya district of the Pearl away from residential and recreational areas, stated the ministry of interior.

The fire broke out at lower levels, while the workers were at the upper levels. Search and rescue team are evacuating the workers.

A considerable number of workers have been rescued using mobile escalators. The rest of workers are in upper levels and away from the fire source.

Thanks to Alexis and Daijiworld team for bringing this news. With local media barred from reporting true nature of such events (like in the case of Villaigio fire) rumours were the only source of news for the expats in Qatar.

Who said because of the wiring? I don't think so . Why did it burn now and not before same wires , it did not change , and they are under a roof so how could they even burn. Sorry, but it's not the wiring fault .

The fire break out in middle east is mainly due to following the safety procedures of the west & being monitored by some westerner sitting inside the A/C office,without regular site visits & doing nothing.

The reasons for fire in Gulf countries during the summer season, is that the wiring used for most constructed buildings is from China. It is cheap material, and helps in cutting costs.

Chinese made electrical wires do not stand and conform to the temperatures of Gulf countries. They melt and cause short circuit and fire.

Most of chinese manufacture products are the similar story.  They dont last long nor for safety.

Mr. Nagesh Nayak I agreed with your comments. Here the Indian electricians only give better work. Their work Sincere and standard also. But sometime some of the, Middle East supervisors giving the wrong direction to them. In this regard they are helpless to listen or obey their superior one.

Here in the gulf countries safety is more priority still why it is (fire incidents) repeating again and again. Compared to our country, here it is the fire incidents occurring so higher then India, after all their standard safety measure

Fire!!! in the building. Two things pop up: (i) Accidental (ii) Intentional.

Thorough sincere investigation needs to be carried out. In particular due to the upcoming World Cup event in Qatar.

It is no wonder there are so many fires in Qatar with the poor standard of electrical wiring in this country. Power points shorting and circuit breakers tripping are just another day in paradise in this country. I guess thats what you get for hiring electricians from 3rd World countries. Shame the Qatari people cannot afford to hire real electricians who know what theyre doing and dont put people's lives at risk.
