Mangalore, May 28: The high court of Karnataka has ordered status quo on MSEZ road-cum-corridor project over the alleged dumping of mud into Phalguni river by MSEZ, said social activist Natesh Ullal at a press meet here on Monday May 28.
A high court bench headed by chief justice Vikramjit Sen ordered that status quo on the project would be maintained until further notice. Natesh also said that this matter was brought to the notice of the concerned and that the order copy is yet to reach them.
In a public interest litigation filed in the high court in April, it was mentioned that the ecology of the river was at peril after illegal dumping of mud into the Phalguni River. The status quo order is applicable alongside KISCO and KIUCL land.
Natesh said that as those who support SEZ claiming that employment is generated should answer as to how many local youths have been employed. "Any such want of industries should be decided at the panchayat level and not in metropolitan cities, as people over there are not aware of the ecology of the region. Setups like petrochemical industries which are detrimental to the nature need not come here, when only ‘soft’ industries are heading towards the state capital. People should raise voice against Mangalore being considered as ‘dust bin’ for harmfull industries."
Vidya Dinker of Citizens' Forum for Mangalore Development said that the work of dumping mud into the river continued even on May 24 at night and when residents of the area called police control number, there was no response.
Now its time to change our DC.He is not fit for Mangalore.Mr.DC he is not doing his work better go home & take rest Mr.DC.He is fit for less educated district like bidar, yadagiri or some other place.which better for him.You just come outside from your office & see what is going on in Dk.
WHY THIS RSS / BAJA RANGA IS NOT JOINING HANDS WITH THIS LADY ? I THINK THEY ARE HEAVILY PAID BY THE CONGRESS OR BJP GUYS TO SHUT THEIR MOUTH !!! IF THEY REALLY CONCERN ABOUT INDIAN CULTURE AND THE PEOPLES INTEREST IN THE REGION SHOULD COME OUT FROM THE HOLE AND FIGHT FOR THE PEOPLES RIGHT REGARDLESS ANY RELIGION, CAST OR CREED !!! AND NOT TO RESERVED FOR SOME UNPRACTICAL ISSUES !! ( THEY TRAINED ONLY FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS LIKE DONKEY)
We need more ecological survey in this case too. Because last year in Mangalore and Udupi region, sand mining d as illegal, so almost all the rivers have been filled with rich sand and now according to latest news from Mangalore and Udupi excess reserve of sand in the river caused water scarcity and there is no drinking water available if rain not starts early. Similarly dumping mud in the river may not cause much problem unless it is harmful waste from other sources or causing human risk during rainy season. If we dump mud in the river bed properly, during flood season mud will diminish with natural downward flow.
Thanks Mrs. Ullal and Dinker.. A temporary releif you may call , these corporates will vacate the stay with their money power. Unless we citizens of twin city get together and fight unifiedly we will not be able to beat these monsters. We must joing hands with people like Mrs. Ulal without any political ambitions in it. It is heart rending to see the destruction of our districts.. about 10years back when we fly over coastal karnataka we could see Greenery everywhere and now we can see only red color dust... all our hillocks is flattened near bajpe. Nature have created these hills for a reason - we have found a very good way to make land by flattening these mountains. Unless we people of mangalore and udupi oppose it unifiedly- we will lose our land for good. our lands will become desert in no time.. wake up friends lets join of voice with the victims of MSEZ. 1st MRPS, 2nd UPCL , 3rd MSEZ... 4th will be on all of our head to push us down to patala loka.
We are proud of our judicial system which showed how it can handle all corrupt & criminal administrators and that it wont spare anyone who raise there head above the law of this country. This should be a lesson for everyone. Smt. Vidya Dinker hats off to you. We are proud of you
Finally somebody listened to the serious issue of ecological disaster of MSEZ...Mam,Vidya Dinker,Big congrats for you and your Citizen forum for Mangalore Development. It is a slap on the District Admin and certainly for Current DC OF DK.DC should had restrained in underestimating serious environmental and ecological peril of locality where MSEZ operating. There might be resolvable issues between the citizens and Govt or semi govt establishments like MSEZ in which DC must be rationale and impartial. It is very unfortunate that first time in the history of Karnataka an lady NGO head falsely booked under obstruction of Govt by an responsible officer of the District.Better before people will revolt against the said officer, he must voluntarily vacate his place and look for another less educated district.
