Riyadh-Mumbai Jet Airways Plane Catches Fire on Landing

Riyadh-Mumbai Jet Airways Plane Catches Fire on Landing

Mumbai, May 28 (PTI):
About 158 passengers on board Jet Airways Riyadh-Mumbai flight today escaped unhurt after a fire broke out in the left engine of the aircraft on its landing here.

The incident took place when the flight arrived around 5.40 AM, airport sources said.

The Jet plane was on the taxiway when the follow me up vehicle saw a fire in the left engine of the aircraft. The pilot was told to hold and shut the engine, they said.

"However, the fire was immediately put out and all the passengers were deplaned safely," they added. In a statement, Jet Airways said the flight 9W523 (Riyadh-Mumbai) was advised by the ATC to return to base as there was slight visibility of smoke from the engine as also observed by the cockpit crew.

"As per standard operating procedures, one engine was shut down and passengers were deplaned safely. The flight operation was stopped for about ten minutes," the statement added.

"Follow me" itself gives the answer. In the airport these vehicles are used for giving direction how to move the aircraft.Basically it is some times a new crew , Captain loses track of his aircraft path on ground ,A vehicle with a sign Follow Me is used to guide the aircraft

Thank God all the passengers and crew members escaped and even the aircraft was not damaged. Luckily the engine did not catch fire in mid-air as it would have been fatal. Jet Airways have the best pilots and crew who can handle such situations. I am a regular traveler by Jet Airways and their service is good.

Al Hamdulillah. It was a great escape for my sister, brother in law and nephew and the rest of the passengers. They have reached safely home.
The news of disorder announced early and they were requested to remain in seat until the fire was put off.

Good day to all,
The aircraft must have been using either Pratt & Whitney or Rolls Royce Engines.
These engines are manufactured under very high industrial standards.
One should blame the maintenance staff. There must have been a leak of fuel. The said aircraft uses Pirelli tires from Italy.
Probably there must have been a spark which could have caused the fire.
The aviation petrol they use as a fuel ignites at 560C and hence is very safe.
In conclusion: Aircraft travel is much safer than any other mode of transport.
Have a nice day all of you.
