Udupi, May 24: In a major incident that took place here in the surrounding area of Muloor of Kapu Gram Panchyath region, more than 300 acres of land was engulfed in fire. The incident took place on Tuesday, May 22 evening.

The fire spread to the Muloor area and also disseminated to the places of Belapu, Uchila, Polya and Kapu. No major damages were caused as the fire gutted in the vast fields wherein the trees and landscape were completely burnt.

It is reported that the gutted region was earlier bought by Suzlon Company for their project and therefore cultivation of paddy and other agricultural product was completely stopped by the farmers. It is also learnt that since 2 to 3 years the land was left barren.

Udupi fire brigade and the fire extinguishing unit of the company along with the localities smothered the fire from spreading further.

The villagers said that the fire might have spread because of the cigarette butts thrown unknowingly.

@Shashi Shetty, Join the Karnataka Revolutionary Army (KRA), primary aim of which is to drive away outsiders from neighboring states who have purchased agricultural lands in Karnataka and plead with the government to make necessary changes in land reform acts to prevent outsiders from purchasing agricultural lands in Karnataka. Only Kannadigas by birth should own agricultural lands and till our holy land.
