Last Year an IPL Player, Now a Farmer

Azamgarh, UP, May 7 (Express India): While the spotlight was on the match between Pune Warriors and Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday, May 4, far away from the IPL action, in Nadwa Sarai village in Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh, left-arm seamer Kamran Khan harvests his wheat crop, wearing the uniform of his team — Pune Warriors.

With the Pune franchise not requiring his services this season, the 21-year-old was sent home, after being paid Rs 10 lakh. Kamran, who made a name for himself as the Rajasthan Royals’ mystery pick in 2009, now fears that he may soon be forgotten.

Not so long ago, Kamran was hailed as the “next big thing” by none other than Shane Warne, the then captain of Rajasthan Royals. That was before the on-field umpires reported him for suspect action during a match against the Chennai Super Kings in 2009, just a few days after he marked his presence on the field with a tremendous ability to generate speed.

While the Royals retained him the next year, he was picked by the Pune Warriors in their maiden season in 2011. He played only one match then, and none in 2012.

“That’s when the taunts began,” says Kamran. From being invited as chief guest to every event in his village, the cricketer has now become an easy target.

“It’s almost like they were waiting for me to fall,” he says. “Not many people here understand cricket. They now tell me how useless I am, and how my career is over because I chuck.”

At first, the taunts hurt. “Now, I’ve learned to ignore them. Instead, I spend my days training for a comeback in the mornings and evenings. During the day, I work on my brother’s farm, keeping to myself, away from the rest of the villagers,” says Kamran.

“Earlier, I used to work on the farm only,” he says. “But I had to stop a few years ago as I was busy with cricket.”

And when he gets time off from farming and training for his second innings, he turns on the television and catches up on the IPL scores.

Do u know guys? How kamran spent life before he came to cricket, he had one white cloth to play in local club
. He was trying to recover his family from poverty and he pretty good bowler at 18 yrs than other young players. This is some politics influence in his matter I think, BCCI should handle to retain his game and give chance to play in IPL .

FARMER VS IPL
Farmer feeds thousands,
IPL player feeds none but himself & corporates.

Dear Bhandarkar..Many thanks for your compliment. But my respect, attention, devotion towards Sachin will not change. He is the GOD of Cricket for ever.I don't agree with Tendulkar in only one point. He is playing IPL.It hurts me.He might not have imagined about bad impact of IPL on public before signing contract.Yes..IPL is a betting, gambling game. Those who don't know ABCD of cricket are glued to tv because they are involved in betting. In our twin distrcts, ordinary bus drivers, hotel cleaners, suppliers are seriously involved in betting. At the end of the day..heavy loss, fighting, family break up etc. Please stay away from IPL.It will destroy middle class people in the long run.

Anyway,Let(I wish) Kamran Khan play in wheat field and become a successful farmer.Let him become a Brand Ambassador of Agriculture line.Let him show a way for our young generation that Agriculture is the backbone and strength of India. Can Kamran get MAN OF THE MATCH award in this field ?

Dear Nagesh Nayak,

It is high time that you talk about your achievements do not bring politics all the time in everything!! Or else it is better that you become a PM of India and lead the country!! It is easy to talk but very difficult to manage such a populated country. Why can't you do something better instead of pointing fingers to others!!

Dear Nagesh Mamu, we like your harsh comments and few get furious at your harsh comments too. But where is the link between Sonia vs. Cricket? Please remove your wording “Italian” from your comments since Sonia is no more Italian though her heart is roaming in Italy only. In fact she tried to break the “Mafia” in BCCI few years back in vain and nobody will succeed to do that. Let us all believe that Sonia Gandhi must have obtained Indian Passport with Indian citizen rights too. If not entire Congress Leaders will pay the prize for accepting MP or Party Leader other than Indian Citizen

Last week my dog died suddenly. It was very healthy. All this is because of the stupid policies of the corrupt BJP government. Too many dogs have died since the BJP came to power. At this rate no dogs will be left and they might become endangered species soon. Better to kick out the BJP government as soon as possible and save our dogs. Next it could be the turn of cats under this government.

What is wrong about farming in the field. He is farming in his own (his brothers) field. In 11 million only 110 ppl get a chance to play in IPL. rest all have to work for there for daily bread. If he works hard he can come back. We should proud that he got his chance to show his talent.

I would have rained bad words on Kamran Khan, had he chosen real estate business.Luckily, his selection is the best one. Agriculture is totally ignored in India. Kamran Khan won the toss and elected to field on wheat ground and not on cricket ground.GOOD FOR INDIA.Poor Indians may forget Dhoni,Dada,Veeru after some time, but not KAMRAN KHAN.At least we remember him when we eat chapatti.

Rayan Miranda, Neermarga

This is pathetic part of Indian cricket. Now we know why we don't have expert fast bowlers. They are just ignored like Kamran Khan... Money is important then the talent for BCCI.

So WHAT???? It is fine. It is part of life. We all should know the trouble our backbone (farmer) goes thru and what returns he gets.
As far as his cricketing future is concerned, if he has talent and if he has dedication, he will come back. See how many times Ganguly had to fight for his position. He never gave up.

Well said Americans,,,,,, 11 FOOLS ARE PLAYING AND 11 MILLION FOOLS ARE WATCHING ! . That is the comment of America on cricket.

GODFATHER s are the key players in the game of cricket .No matter how good you are technically or how good you are with your physical fitness. You get a chance to play for the country , state or teams if you have a strong back up and also a intelligent PRO who works for commission on your earnings.

The Great Kapil Dev was working as a 3rd division clerk for Haryana municipality before he came to limelight and d 83 Crores of black money in the gap of 12 years. He is the only Indian cricketer who d his black money and proved himself as all time great.

Find out a strong GODFATHER before thinking of becoming a professional criceter. Will remein in the fields otherwise.

Sachidanand Shetty, Mundkur/Dubai
Monday, May 07, 2012

Don’t worry Kamran another day fresh sunshine will also come in your life too. Few people who can’t play good cricket then start playing politics or dirty cricket off the field to ruin others carrier. No fast bowler can chunk after taking 10 to 15 yards or more run-ups for bowling. Great spinner Muralidharan too targeted by none other than Australians but he end up in taking highest ever wicket taker and probably his record will never broken for at least next few generations looking at the present scenario. Working at farm field is also a good profession but concentrate on your cricket carrier too. At least you try to play for UP in coming season so that BCCI can recognize your good work in National Team too and finally little GOD Bless also required, so keep faith on GOD and devote some time for prayer too

Excellent report Daiji. Even I was unaware why he was not playing in this years IPL edition. Its sad that BCCI has not sent him to NCA for corrective measures to his bowling action if it was 'suspect'. We need to back these youngsters before they go into oblivion. Even Harbhajan was reported by the umpires early in his career. Even Murali and Malinga dont have the perfect bowling arm.

hi kamran goodluck in farming,,i can undersatnd ur feelings,, but god has defferent ways...cricket is only for nothing...its all money game one day u will bat other day u are bowled ...so continue ur good work in the farm field which will give u food until ur last days ..

The other side story of the fascinating game, CRICKET!I think Kamaran will come back one again with a bang. This gentleman has guts and courage to face ups and downs in the life.

Kamran need to rectify his bowling action with professional Cricket academies. He is still young, has long innings to go.I feel sympathy for him after seeing him working in wheat fields.Anyhow, god will help him reaching heights in Cricket one day.
