Udupi: Police Crack Manipal Shootout Case - Arrest Eleven

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, Apr 21: Eleven persons have been arrested in connection with the shootout that occured at Manipal here on Friday April 20.

Addressing a press meet here on Saturday April 21, SP Dr Boralingaiah explained that a gang of 10-15 people led by 'Golden Suresh' had wanted to kill Mahendra-Anupama couple and Shabarish of Shantinagar and steal their gold, in revenge for a recent case.

On recieving tip-off, the police formed two teams which located the cars in which the accused had arrived and chased them down.

When the cars reached a dead end, five got down in a bid to escape, and one of them tried to assault the policemen with swords. The policemen retaliated by firing three rounds of bullets in defence. At this, the accused ran away leaving behind their weapons. The police again chased them and managed to arrest two while two others escaped. Some more arrests were made later.

The arrested are Guruprasad Shetty, Ravikiran, Saleem, Shakir Ahamed Alevoor - Manipal, Sudhir Poojary, Mustafa, Zakir Hussain, Basheer, Santosh Poojary, Harish Kharvi and Mahesh Poojary. Jaleel and Jafar managed to slip away.

The police also recovered 13 mobile handsets and six weapons including five swords and a machete from them. Their vehicles, a Maruti Omni and an Alto were also seized.

The SP also said that the plan was hatched by 'Golden' Suresh and Kabir of Kaup Pakeerkatte. Efforts are on to track them down, he said. Altogether, along with Jafar and Jaleel, four accused are absconding.

The police team that conducted the operation was awarded Rs 15,000 by the SP, while IGP (western range) Pratap Reddy and DG-IGP A R Infant will reward them with Rs 25,000.

I dont know why police fire in the air in waste when they can shoot these criminals in self defence at least they can aim at their feet and catch if NOT kill them.

If in the USA they would be dead by now. This is the reason why criminals are not afraid of police since they only come with a BAMBOO STICK.
