Kasargod, Apr 11: The detectives of Hosdurg police station arrested a quarry labourer of Kariccheri on Tuesday April 10, on charges of murdering 52-year-old K Balakrishnan Nair.

The arrested has been identified as 45-year-old Balakrishnan Nambiar, a native of Kariccheri, and also a friend of the deceased. Nair’s dead body was found near his under-construction house a few days ago.

Police sources informed that Nambiar confessed to having committed the murder due to matters of debt. Nambiar revealed that Nair had borrowed Rs 500 from the former two weeks ago; he had returned Rs 300 and promised to return Rs 200 on Sunday April 8.

Both of them were fully drunk on Sunday night when they quarreled over Rs 1,000 that the deceased had earlier borrowed from Nambiar and failed to return. Nair slept at his under-construction house.

Nambiar saw Nair sleeping there and killed him with a hammer that he dumped in a deserted area.  The police had found the hammer used in the crime.
