Two Special Causes, a Hundred Helping Hands - Thank You Readers

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore / Udupi, Mar 15: In continuing support of Daijiworld's social awareness mission and concern for the needy, its online appeals have been gaining huge response from its readers around the world.

Apart from our monthly 'Helping Hand' requests, there are special stories which have received quick and special attention from donors who have helped the needy families and enabled them to get medical treatment on priority.

Pushpalatha Poojary Case

Within a few days of publishing the story about the plight of Pushpalatha Poojary, a brilliant student, in this column, over a hundred Daijiworld readers from across the globe contributed approximately Rs 3.5 lac to help her with her treatment.

Young Pushpalatha, a native of Kumbarabettu in Vaddarse gram panchayat, has been bedridden for the past two years. She had lost sensation in her feet and was worried about her future.

Pushpalatha had bouts of fever while studying in II PUC at Vivek Pre-University College, Kota. She then recovered and was back to normal in a fortnight. But then she had to be admitted to Manipal Hospital again when she lost mobility in her limbs. Although everyone felt she was recouping, she lost sensation from below her waist. No significant improvement in her condition was seen despite spending Rs 2.5 lac in two-and-a-half months.

Pushpalatha was later admitted to SDM Ayurveda Hospital, Udyavar, where she was treated for nearly two years without any significant improvement in her health.

Now with the help of readers' contribution, she has been taken to Bangalore for advanced treatment, and according her family sources, she is responding positively and showing great signs of recovery.

This would be a highly satisfying news to those who donated towards her cause and supported her through other ways.

Pushpalatha and her parents wholeheartedly thanked Daijiworld readers whom they recognize as the reason for their good fortune.

Tiller Accident Takes Farmer's Life, Family Gets Support

It was a freak accident that took the life of agriculturist John Paul D’Souza in December 2011, sending his family into a state of shock and desperation.

A resident of Harekala village near Ullal here, John D'Souza had just started his tiller to prepare the soil to sow sugarcane crop on the fateful morning of December 2, when his leg got stuck in the tiller, snatching the life out of him.

Since John was a sole bread-winner, his wife Sunitha, and three kids plunged into despair, and had no immediate source to depend upon.

The appeal published on Daijiworld on Jan 10, 2012 moved several of its generous readers, and around Rs 4.5 lac got accumulated in Sunitha's account.

In a letter written to Daijiworld, she has thanked all those who reached out during her hour of crisis. She also offered her and her family's prayers and blessings to everyone who stood by her.
