Mangalore, Dec 12: The third Global Konkani Music Awards were presented by Mandd Sobhann at a glittering ceremony that saw some of the best talents in Konkani music assemble under one roof. The event was held at Kalaangann here on Sunday December 11.

Speaking on the occasion, chief guest V Manohar, noted lyricist and music director, said that it was not easy to compose music, and that songs of yesteryears need to be archived and passed on to the younger generation. It is also essential to honour the composers who create such good music, he added.

"Songs have to be rightly shared with the younger generation as it encompasses the rich tradition of the Konkani fraternity", he opined. Singing some lines from the Konkani movie 'Ujjwadu', he lauded the efforts of Mandd Sobhann in preserving and recognizing Konkani music.

The Global Music Awards were given in six categories by a panel of jury.

Nephie Rod who has mesmerised audiences around the Gulf and India, bagged the best female singer award for the song 'Rani Voni' from the album 'Buyao Rocks Konkan'. On receiving the award, she said that this was her third major award, and the one thing common between them was that they were all composed by Siddhanat Buyao.

Renowned singer Melwyn Peris won the best male singer award for the song 'Khuxi Zatha' from the album 'Moga Uzo'.

The best music composer award was bagged by Roshan D'Souza of Mangalore for the song 'Dorya Thoddir' from the album 'Moga Mothiyam'. The late Bakibab Borkar was awarded the best lyricist for his 'Swapan Fultha Tavar' from the album 'Baki Sanchit'.

Darrel Mascarenhas bagged the best music arranger award for the album 'Youth'. He dedicated the award to his band Elysium. Neeta Peris bagged the award for the best album for 'Moga Uzo'.

Joyce Ozario was conferred with the title “Konkani Abolem” for her contributions to Konkani music and her service to Mandd Sobhann. The award included bouquet, citation, gold medal and a memento.
Brilliant dance performances to Konkani tunes by Naach Sobhann troupe and mesmerizing rendition of music by 'Sax-Trumpet Ensemble' of Tiatr Academy, Goa entertained the audience. Melita Pinto and Titus Noronha compered the event.

Mandd Sobhann president Stany Alvares, Gurkar Eric Ozario, Editor-in-chief of Daijiworld Walter Nandalike, Daijiworld director (operations) Melvyn Rodrigues, president of Konkani Prachar Sanchalan Roy Castelino and others were present.
