UAE : Nine-day Long Holiday Likely for Eid-al-Adha

Daijiworld Media Network - Dubai

Dubai, Oct 19: A huge relief is in store for the residents of UAE, as a long break is expected for the upcoming Eid-al-Adha celebrations.

Eid is expected to fall on Sunday November 6, according to news agency WAM.

For the public sector there will be a straight nine-day holiday from Friday November 4 to November 12. Schools are also expected to close during this period.

For the private sector, the weekend will start from November 4 and re-open on November 7.

Dhu Al Hijja, the 12th month of the lunar Islamic calendar that marks the beginning of the Haj season and Eid Al Adha, is expected to fall on October 28.

Eid-al-Adha, like Ramadan, must be confirmed by moon sighting, as per Islamic tradition.

Is private sector dates already finalised? if it is final dates I am in deep trouble here. I have taken leave from 9th but booked air ticket on 4th since eid was predicted on 6,7 & 8th. Now i have to pray to moon, and my boss about holidays. Morever only 1 day leave for eid is not fair.

31 years in Gulf, I still don't understand why Muslims in Public Sectors and Muslims in Private Sector are treated in-differently. It is the same feast/occasion for all Muslims!
