Bangalore has Lowest Sex Ratio, DK Highest Literacy Rate in State

Bangalore, Apr 6: While coastal Dakshina Kannada district has the highest literacy rate of 88.62 per cent in Karnataka, the nation’s knowledge capital of Bangalore has the lowest sex ratio at just 908 females per 1000 males as the provisional data of Census 2011.

Incidentally, according to the provisional figures Karnataka’s population touched 6.11 crore.

Bangalore has also emerged as the most populous district in Karnataka with the population falling short of the one crore mark by less than five lakh.

The provisional population figures released by the Census Directorate, Karnataka has a population of 6,11,30,704 comprising 3,10,57,742 men and 3,00,72,962 women and the population in Bangalore district stood at 95,88,910.

Population growth rate in the state declined to 15.67 per cent from 17.51 per cent in 1991-2001, state Census Director Anil Kumar told reporters here.

The male-female ratio in the state rose marginally to 968 females per 1000 males as against 965 in 2001.

While Udupi district had 1093 females per 1000 males, Kodagu was barely above Dakshina Kannada district at 1010 females per 100 males while the figure for Dakshina Kannada was 1018.

The sex ratio declined in Udupi (-37), Dakshina Kannada (-4) and Kolar (-1).

Perceptible increase in sex ratio was seen in Kodagu (+23), Chikmagalur (+21), Chamarajanagar (+18), Dharwad (+18), Shimoga (+17) and Mysore (+18).

The state’s literacy rate increased from 66.64 per cent in 2001 to 75.60 per cent in 2011. Male literacy has gone up from 76.10 per cent in 2001 to 82.25 in 2011 and female literacy from 56.87 per cent in 2001 to 68 per cent in 2011.

Dakshina Kannada recorded the highest literacy rate of 88.62 per cent and Yadgir the lowest rate of 52.36 per cent.

The density of population per sqkm of the State increased from 276 to 319 during the decade, an increase 43.

Top three districts in density of population are Bangalore Urban – 4,378, Dakshina Kannada – 457, Bangalore Rural – 431 and lowest density districts are Chikmagalur – 158, Uttara Kannada – 140 and Kodagu – 135.

Anil Kumar, the State’s Census Director, said that there could be a slight variation in the provisional data and the final data, which would be published next year.

This is the 15th Census and largest headcount ever conducted since 1872.

    The Population of Bangalore is a floating Population, and if we consider only the people of bangalore origin then the sex ratio should be much better...

    For people who are asking Why is the highest sex ratio at particular place, maybe if they do some insight study may get the answers themselves. Or may be caste survey would provide a better insight for such people about cricket teams being raised at some homes you know whos. Any comments pseudos ?..I know you would not want to buy this..common, am being communal correct ?

    Nagesh Nayak Bangalore,please answer why Bangalore City lacks(lowest) sex ratio?DK bound to have highest literacy rate because DK is a destination of educational hub quite long before.Manipal Pai brother's contribution in this regard is highly remarkable.
