Louis D'Souza, Udupi/Kuwait you know the history that good even some don't know but history has the record in GOA MUSEUM like Rama Prabhu, the son of Dado Vithal Prabhu from Benaulim, Salcette became Francisco Fernandes, while Mahabala Pai, the son of Nara Pai, became Manuel Fernandes in 1596. Mahabal Kamati of Curtorim became Aleisco Menezes in 1607, while Chandrappa Naik of Gandaulim became Antonio Dias in 1632. In 1595, Vittu Prabhu became Irmao de diago Soares and the son of Raulu Kamath became Manuel Pinto in Aldona, Bardez. Ram Kamath of Punola became Duarte Lobo in 1601, while Tados Irmaose of Anjuna became Joao de Souza in 1658.[7] However, the converted Hindus retained their mother tongue (which in most cases, was Konkani) and caste status, even after becoming Christian.

Shettys n Hegdes are bold people, Their unity is great, I think, they are Khshathriya's. I also heard that D'souza's were Shettys before St. Thomas came to India.

Most bunts who went away seem to have either forgotten about their native place or are shy of their past. They are hard working, chase the money hard in almost all fields and proved good everywhere else but in South Kanara. Dr. Surendra Rao and not a Bunt writing the book itself speaks a lot about it. It would have been better for Daijiworld to have highlighted some of flashes of the book. It would be interesting to know how Jumadi and Mahishandaini figure in it.

Bunts have contributed a great deal not only for the History and Culture but also for the Economy and Education throughout South Kanara. Bunts are patriotic and Bunts are Enterprising. They have proved to the the role models of not only Karnataka but also in many parts of the world they have migrated and made their second home. Santosh Hegde was my class-mate and it is my desire to meet with him some time some where and recollect the good-old days
