Instrument Landing System Begins Operation at Mangalore Airport Again

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jun 17: The Air India Express flight from Dubai touched down at the local airport as usual on Wednesday June 16 morning, but the flight from Kuwait that was to land here at 9.30 am was diverted to Kozhikode.  Because of inclement weather, the flight, after taking a few rounds here, went to Kozhikode airport. In normal course, it should have touched down here, before proceeding to Kozhikode.

This flight came back with Dubai-bound passengers later and left to Dubai again at 11.30 am. The Jet Airways flight from Mumbai that was to arrive at 10.40 am came at 2.30 pm. The Indian airlines flight in the afternoon from Mumbai too suffered a delay of two hours because of heavy rains in Mumbai. The Jet Airways flight from Mumbai, was delayed by an hour, reaching here at 3.30 pm.

The Instrument Landing System at Bajpe airport that had been damaged after having been hit by the Air India Express flight that crashed here on May 22, has been reinstated. It started functioning at 6.30 pm on Wednesday. With this, the flight schedules are expected to improve. A team from New Delhi had come for fixing the system on Monday. After conducting various tests to check its functioning, the system was officially declared to be operational on Wednesday evening

Ronald, I agree with you the so called ministers, chelas who arte they? They are Indians like us, in one of the comment from NRI that he had only a day to expire his visa and he is blaming AI , why cant he go and request visa issuing authority people to give him a extensions. He knows what he will get and he know that he can make some noise in India due to our system , see that attitude here What I am saying is let all of us change our attitude and walks together then we can change our system. If you see a flight delay in India all NRI make big noise inside the airport, do you think they do same when they are in Dubai, Kuwait or else where no, why they know what they will get, why can’t they act same in India. Just after the accident in Mangalore the Kuwait flight cancelled due to some fault. I was in AI office one passenger was complaining that AI put us in a bus and asked us to go to hotel which booked by AI. He says no AI personal came with them. Why you need an AI man boss. They gave free hotel to them. You can not satisfy our people.

Will the black box reveal if the ILS was in a functioning or non-functioning stage? somebody answer pls.

I booked my ticket for 01.06.2010 for Mangalore-Muscat sector paying extra fare for the direct flight and suffered loss of pay for 3 days to avail a direct flight to Muscat. However, the captain Mr. Zoran Frenc announces 10 minutes after take off that he got a call from COMPANY and so he is taking the flight to Abu Dhabi instead of Muscat!

I protested and lodged a protest and claim to reimburse the additonal expenses incurred by me. The Air India Express has no courtesy even to call me or to send an email to me at least to clarify the issue. This is Air India Express!!!!

    KT Mangalore,
I can not agree anything more! Where do we head from here? I'm sure, Ministers and the chelas has the phone numbers handy to get the attention of key people through various channels! My question is, what is the fate of common man who keeps these dirty people on the job by means of tax and exhorbitant airfare?

It is good news that ILS reinstalled. Whatever it may be AI & its pilots should be more responsible and they should know they carry life so many people. Air Inida Express calling itsself as low cast airlines, funny thing is the fare no ways less than other airlines.

It is nice to hear the ILS has been installed. Atleast people can travel without fear to mangalore. Mangalore Airport should implement online flight schedule and 24*7 customer service.

Also it is high time Mangalore Airport and Air India Office publish the working numbers at the airport and employ operater who attends the phone 24X7. Last week, due to flight cancellations, I tried to call airport through the numbers from Google search and many other sources. Most of the numbers were not working numbers and the one ringing no one to pick (hundred plus attempts on Sunday 13th) at night. Flight was scheduled at 3 am according to daiji News. No one to conform that.
What more we can expect from AI Express and Mangalore Airport in the case of emergency? Privatisation may help?

Is there any means of getting the news of the black box decoding or is it yet another "silently shelved and stored" event as has happened in all other crash incidents?

Thank you Dr. Arun. Several updates on this matter developed with AIE crash, it has become a cobs web now. The terminal was formally inaugurated by the Minister of Aviation on 1st June but was to be operational from 15th June. Apparently the direct approach road isn't clear yet. Else, there would have been reports from people about their experience of using the new terminal.

Guys the New Terminal was opened for the minister to inaugurate! It was immediately closed up on completion of the inaugurations. It might next open during the next season! That’s perhaps after the repair work done!! Note, ILS was available during the time of the air crash, that’s not what a contemporary airport should need!?
