Udupi, Jan 18: Rector of Kallianpur Milagres Cathedral, Fr Valerian Mendonca said that the newly elected gram panchayat members should pay attention to providing value-based service to the public.

Fr Valerian was speaking at the felicitation programme held at Milagres Tricentenary auditorium on Sunday January 17 of Catholic candidates who contested in the recently concluded gram panchayat elections.

Fr Valerian further said, "Victory and defeat are there in any competition. However, candidates who have lost the elections, should not stop their service to society. Candidates who have won should serve the community more. While serving, priority should be given to values and honesty."

42 catholic candidates who contested in Kallianpur zonal limits were honoured during the event. The immediate past president of the zone, Santhosh Cornelio, treasurer Urban Lewis and others were present.

Rosy Baretto, zonal president of Catholic Sabha Kallianpur, who presided over the function, welcomed the gathering. Secretary Celine Colaco rendered the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Edward Larson D'Souza.
