Udupi: Fisherman drowns during deep sea fishing at Malpe

Udupi, Jan 16: In a tragic incident, a fisherman losing balance fell into the sea and drowned during deep-sea fishing at Malpe.

Fishermen Nagaraja Tukarama Bobbukar (29), resident of Karwar, Umesh, Rama, Sharath, Chudamani and Sudhaker Venkanna Hosakatte had gone fishing from Malpe fishing port on Trijal IND- KA-02MM 3830 370 boat belonging to a Malpe resident, Somashekar Bangera at 4 am on January 10.

Whilst fishing in the deep sea at about 1 am on January 13, Sudhaker Venkanna Hosakatte (39) who was pulling the fishing net from inside the boat accidentally slipped and fell into the sea. Those on the boat tried to rescue him but they could not find him in the water.

His mortal remains were found at about 1.45 pm on January 15 during a search at a distance of about ten furlongs from Malpe port.

A police case under serial no 02/2021 under section 194 CRPC is registered at Malpe police station on the basis of a complaint from Nagaraja Tukarama Bobbukar, who was one of the fishermen in the boat.
