Udupi, Jan 16: Social worker Ravi Katapadi, known for his unique ways of helping needy children's medical treatment, appeared on ‘Karamveer Special’ episode of popular Hindi game show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC).

The episode was aired on Friday Jan 15. Ravi was selected for the show for his noble work of collecting money for the poor and needy children's medical purposes.

Ravi appeared on the show along with popular Bollywood actor Anupam Kher. Bollywood Big B and host of the show Amitabh Bachchan appreciated the work of Ravi on the show and on his request greeted the audience in Tulu.

Videos of Amitabh Bachchan speaking in Tulu language on the show went viral on social media overnight.

Ravi attempted to answer seven questions using a lifeline. The episode was shared among two special guests.

‘Very happy to be part of KBC’

Speaking to media persons at press club on Saturday January 16, Ravi said, “I am very happy to be part of the Hindi game show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC). It was like a dream for me. I cannot believe that I met Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan. Another famous actor Anupam Kher treated me well and helped me to communicate at the show. I do not know Hindi, but he encouraged and filled me with confidence. I was very nervous and never seen such a big show in my life. I am unable to convey my happiness in words.

“Moreover, they shot in coastal area tourist places, our culture and lifestyle. That made me happier. The channel provided all facilities to make me feel comfortable,” he said.

So far, Ravi has helped many lives with his unique way of social service. He cried remembering the situation of his niece. “She died from cancer. I was not able to help as the required amount was huge. I have a principle in my life that if I collect money for the cause of helping poor and needy children’s medical treatment, I will not use that amount for other purposes. I will dedicate that money to the medical treatment of the needy kids. Then, even though I had the money, I was not able to spend on my niece’s treatment. I was not able to save her life because I found myself helpless.”

“My friends and well-wishers have helped me in every step. I am doing centering work for my daily bread. I am ready for any kind of work to earn a living. Nowadays, people are treating me in a different way and I am not able to get a job. No one is calling for me for work as they I have received a lot of publicity from media and public. But in reality, I have a life and I have to look after my parents also. So far, the amount credited to my account from KBC is Rs 12.5 lac. After some procedure, it will be released. The amount will be spent on the same cause and service will be continued in the same way till the end of my life. I am very happy with this service,” he said.

Congrats Ravi, You are Great but a down to earth person.

While his conversation with Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, Mr. Bachchan himself admitted that we all look very small in front of the deeds you have done.

Ravi is a daily wage worker and devotes only two days in a year during Krishna Ashtami with his costumes but has done a big charity impact. He has helped many children and brought joy to their families.

He told I am very rich because God has given me a body of which all parts works fine. With that I can do many things and help others.
