Karwar, May 23: The pall of gloom has descended the Uttara Kannada district with as many as ten persons meeting death in the plane crash at Bajpe International Airport in Mangalore on Saturday May 22.

The deceased include eight from Bhatkal and one each from Karwar and Dandeli and identified as Mohammad Naseer Damudi (42) from Mavinkurve Port Road, Bhatkal and his children Bibi Sara (11), Nabeeha (9) and Suhaid (6);  Afreen(23), resident of Jolly Road  and her  son Abhan (3) and relative Abdul Bar (11);  Usman Sheik(48), resident of government hospital road, Mahendra Kodkani, from old Dandeli and Prasad Anandu Manjrekar(28), resident of Kadavada Sultanpur, Karwar. Among the ten, eight are from Bhatkal.

Four from Family Among Eight Bhatkal Victims

Mohammad Naseer Damudi from here was an enterpreneur in Dubai and was into real estate business. He had come on a visit just a month ago to attend the funeral of his wife who was killed in automobile crash at Kambadkone. On his return to Dubai, he had taken his three children Bibi Sara (11), Suhaid (8) and Nabeeha (6) except three-year-old son Mohammed Nooh along for a holiday and on ill-fated Saturday was bringing them back to Bhatkal as their schools were about to reopen.

Naseer's father too was in Dubai and had only recently returned to Bhatkal to lead a relaxed retired life. Now three-year-old son of Naseer has been orphaned due to the tragic accident and will have to find solace in the love of his grandparents.

Four Other Deceased Bhatkal Residents

Afreen, a resident of Jolly Road, Bhatkal along with her son Abhan (3) had gone to spend the vacation with her husband working in Dubai and were returning by the ill-fated flight. Abdul Bar (11), a relative who was travelling with them also lost his life.

The eighth victim of the tragedy is Farhas Usman from Sagar Road here and was working as a driver in Dubai since 30 years. He had recently secured a job in Dubai airport and was coming down to meet his family which was not to happen with the tragedy striking the family instead.

Dreams Shattered

Old Dandeli resident Mahendra Kodkani, who was home on a visit just ten days ago, returned again from Dubai with his ailing mother-in-law Indumathi Naik to Mangalore by the flight that met with the accident. He was role model to all his relatives for he in a short span of ten years had rose to a position of director, Global Telecommunications Ltd, UAE.

Prasad Manjrekar of Kadavada Sultanpur, Karwar taluk, was a AC mechanic working for a Bangalore-based company, who quit his job to join a company at Dubai two-and-half years ago. Anandu Manjrekar couple, parents of Prasad was all set to get him married, but with fate's cruel blow Prasad's visit back home after going to Dubai, never became a reality.

Death should have been more kind to those perished. I cant see the charred bodies. May God grant them Mercy and admit them into Paradise. May Allah give patience. forebearance and courage to those who have lost their loved ones. Indeed its painful experience to all of us Coastal people. Its darkest day in the history of karnataka. Death has no affiliations, no colour, no religion. It is equal and impartial.
