Udupi, Oct 28: After the state government gave a nod for the reopening of educational institutions in mid-November, the National Students Union of India (NSUI) has highly condemned the move stating that the government has not consulted major stakeholders in taking the decision.

"The government is bowing to pressure from privately-run institutions in the state to reopen the colleges during this pandemic, risking students' lives. The government has not consulted the opinions of educationists, teaching community, parents and student bodies before announcing their decision," NSUI national coordinator Christian Almeida said.

The NSUI coordinator held that the decision should accompany the government taking full responsibility for the students and lecturers in case they contract the virus and demanded that resuming on-campus classes during this pandemic be on hold.

"The government will be solely responsible if the students and lecturers get infected. It is said that students are our future and the government is risking the future of this nation. Demand not to resume colleges during this pandemic. Some universities have given the option to opt for either online or offline classes, how can lectures conduct classes in two different modes? They are not robots," Almeida said.
