Udupi: Speeding car knocks down, kills 90-year-old senior citizen

Udupi, Oct 23: A 90-year-old senior citizen was killed by a speeding and recklessly driven car near Ashirwad junction, Puttur village on Friday.

The elderly man identified as Puttur village resident Ramachandra Rao was crossing the road on NH66 when the car with registration no KA-19-MJ-563 approached from Udupi towards Santhekatte. The car was being driven by the driver Ramesh Naik to the extreme left side of the road during which it hit Ramachandra Rao. The victim who fell on the road suffered critical injuries on his face, hands and legs and was unable to speak. He was rushed to the district hospital by an ambulance, however, the doctor in the hospital who examined him declared him dead on arrival.

A case under registration No. 72/2020 IPC sections 279 and 304 (a) has been registered in Udupi traffic police station in this connection.
