Udupi, Oct 21: After a motorbike and a tempo collided in an accident on the night of Sunday October 19, a four-year-old child breathed her last. The accident happened near Panchajanya Apartment on Parkala - Badagabettu road.

The unfortunate victim of the accident was Manvi (4), daughter of Arun Kumar from Kukkundoor Ayyap Nagar. Manvi's maternal uncle, Rathan Kumar from Kukkudakatte who was riding the motorbike, was injured.

Rathan was taking the daughter of his elder sister to her home from his house at night, when the accident happened, it is said. A 407 tempo which was moving towards Parkala that was being driven recklessly hit the motorbike from the opposite direction, it is reported.

The child suffered serious injuries and was immediately admitted to the Manipal hospital. But without responding to treatment, the child breathed her last on Monday morning, the police said. Manvi is survived by parents and a brother. A case about the accident was registered in Manipal police station.

The road which connects Badagubettu and national highway 169A is very narrow and there are no warning signs cautioning the riders to be careful. In the recent past, a number of accidents have happened here. The locals say that repeated requests made to officials and people's representatives have not yielded any result.
