'India a holy land, now a land of rapists,' observes Madras HC

Chennai, Oct 1 (IANS): The Madras High Court on Thursday commented that the holy 'Bharathabhoomi' (India) has now turned into "a land of rapists" where a rape occurs every 15 minutes.

The court was hearing a case relating to migrant labour filed by advocate A.P. Suryaprakasam. At that point the advocate pointed to the rape of an Assamese migrant worker in Tiruppur district.

"I had pleaded with the court to provide shelter and care for the affected woman and also to direct the Director General of Police to set up a special investigation team headed by Inspector General, Coimbatore. I had also prayed to the court to direct the government to provide her with financial assistance under the victims' compensation scheme," Suryaprakasam told IANS.

While granting all his prayers, the court observed that "Bharathabhoomi", a holy land, has now become a land of rapists, where a rape occurs every 15 minutes.

Six persons had allegedly raped a 22-year-old migrant worker from Assam in Tiruppur district.

There is no question about the heinous nature of the crime and those involved should receive the strictest punishment. However, the comment by the High Court was unwarranted and unhelpful. These crimes are not new and date back to humanity. They receive enormous publicity in modern times because of the digital media which often sugarcoates and exaggerates it with unverified stories. The political parties jump in to extract whatever benefit they could. Unless the political -police nexus is broken and the justice system is modernised with emphasis on scientific evidence and not on the number of manufactured witnesses and the lung power of the lawyers, the crime situation is unlikely to improve. Parents, teachers, media and the government all have a responsibilty in inculcating civility in the younger generation. Alcohol and drugs are most often associated with these crimes.

No. It was forcefully burnt. Now UP police are saying there was no rape even after the victim was admitted to the hospital and attempted killing her. So case closed. Clean chit to rapists and murderers. This is BJP's Acche dins and Ram Rajya. Blind Bhakths are thrilled.

Bring in laws similar to Saudi Arabia. Hanging in Public.

    That's the best solution.
But government won't because their own people are involved or belong to their own affiliations most of the times.

The silence of Modi, Amit Shah the whole Sangh Parivar and the RSS to crimes against women all these six years has snow balled into a Pandemic across the country. If immidiate measures are not taken to stem this rot, we will soon be considered a failed state in the comity of nations.

Countries across the globe may start issuing advisories to their citizens against visiting our country.

Let us not forget that the world has become a Global Village and news of this nature is flashed across the globe in Minutes which will affect millions of Indians staying and working in countries across the Globe.

Good observation by the Honourable High Court, but not just a land of rapists, a land of loot and plunder and greed for power by thugs with blood on their hands who are ruling the country by dividing and destroying it!
