Rahul, Priyanka arrested while marching towards Hathras to meet victim family

Greater Noida, Oct 1 (IANS): High drama prevailed on Thursday After Uttar Pradesh Police personnel pushed former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on the ground near the Yamuna Expressway and arrested him along with his sister and party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, while they were walking towards Hathras to meet the family of the rape victim.

Gandhi, along with his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other senior leaders had left Delhi on Thursday to meet the family of the Hathras rape victim.

However, they began marching towards Hathras after their vehicle was stopped near the Yamuna Expressway.

Later Rahul Gandhi told the media, "Just now police pushed me, lathi-charged me and threw me on the ground. I want to ask, can only (Narendra) Modiji walk in this country? Can't a normal person walk? Our vehicle was stopped, so we started walking."

Uttar Pradesh Police Personnel also Gandhi that his sister and he have been arrested as they were marching in an area where section 144 has been imposed.

The section relates to assembly of not more than five people at one place.

Gandhi said that even if Section 144 had been imposed, he will walk alone towards Hathras to meet the family of the rape victim.

Before his arrest, the Congress leaders had a heated exchange with police personnel and asked the grounds on which they were being arrested.

According to Ranvijay Singh, Additional DCP, Gautam Budh Nagar, Rahul Gandhi has been taken into custody and they won't be allowed to go further as the police have a letter from DM Hathras saying that if they visit Hathras, it may disturb the law and order situation in the district.

Also, there is the issue of providing security cover to them.

Rahul Gandhi, along with Priyanka, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Rajiv Shukla and several other top leaders was walking towards Hathras to meet the family of the victims a day after the last rites of the rape victim were allegedly performed during the night in the absence of her family members.

After more than one year of abrogation of article 370 in Kashmir opposition parties and journalists are still not allowed to go to Kashmir in spite if govt claiming everything restored to normalcy and business as usual. There was no reason for refusal for RG and PGV to meet victim's family as constitutionally legal and responsible opposition discharging thier duties if it was a genuine case but if Yogi is feeling guilty then he is misusing the state machinery for his corrupt deeds which is double crime.

Law is the same irrespective of status, but law enforcement should be proportional, not aggressive as it might have happened here. If the three Congress leaders did not resist arrest, there was no reason to handle them in the manner reported. Perhaps if security was provided by the Central Government as Rahul and Priyanka are emtitled to, police would have had to deal with the security and then the police would have hesitated before acting before they got the stick from the security.

The way UP police behaved with Shri Rahul Gandhi not at all justifiable. If this thing happened with Modi or any leader from BJP today there would have been fire everywhere. Hypocrecy of this Govt will get paid one day heavily

    People,

I am not a CONgress supporter...but Police should not use 'Force' unless a person resists....even when using Force ...it should not be dis-proportionate ....

Here UP Police need some basic training....

This will help Rahul and CONgress....

But in UP it is specifically the upper caste that is the culprit. It is always caste based rapes in UP. They want to silence the backward classes.

In this state, law and order is never disturbed by rapes and murders. It is only disturbed by performing final rites of the victim and visits to the victim's family

SDC mangalore,in this state there are no laws and regulations. So there is no question of following or simply as wild jungle living. One who enters this territory will be also feel the heat.It has been ruled by such person who never learnt what is a civilization .Shame on police who had the guts treat people who were on the way to console the family of victim. One should first of all think how one feels when their own child is a opfer ,and one feels bit good when somebody consoles ,give them backing .Here things have gone out of control ,simply because they belong to Congress Party belong, was absoluetely no need to push and arrest. Is it a sort of misusing the Party power to show who is the lion here?Hope people have understood the mission and vote a wise person next.I fear here still people are afraid of going against their guru.
