Kerala gold smuggling case: Customs arrest Koduvally municipal councillor

Kozhikode, Oct 1: Customs has arrested Koduvally municipal councillor, Karat Faisal for his connection in the Kerala gold smuggling case. The Customs had raided Faisal's residence on Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, in a recent development in the case the fourth accused, Sandeep Nair filed an application in the National Investigation Agency court that he was ready to confess and turn approver in the case.

NIA has been probing the infamous case along with the Enforcement Directorate and Customs which have been unearthing the nexus involved in smuggling gold into the state through diplomatic channels.

On July 5, the Customs in Thiruvananthapuram had seized over 30 kg gold worth Rs 14.82 crore which was smuggled in a consignment camouflaged as diplomatic baggage.
