Udupi: Decomposed body of alcoholic found in sealed down house

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (HB/EP)

Udupi, Sep 28: The decomposed body of Shekar Poojary (55) a resident of Edabettu, was found at his residence on September 28.

Shekar Poojary was married and employed in Mumbai. His family was staying in Edabettu. As Shekar Poojary would consume a lot of alcohol and cause distress to his wife and children, the family was staying away at his wife’s parent’s home in Kemmannu since the last 12 years.

Shekar Poojary used to visit his house in Edabettu every now and then and return to Mumbai.

Poojary had come to his hometown on July 20. The panchayat officers and police officials had also sealed down the house on July 21 with the lockdown in progress and also since there was no communication with Shekar Poojary later.

Earlier today, the officials visited the house at about 8 am to make sure that the house was not damaged during incessant rain. However, they found Poojary’s completely decomposed body in the house.

As Shekar Poojary was known to have been consuming excessive amounts of alcohol its likely that he died from it. However, there may also have been another reason for his death which is said to have occurred between July 21 to September 28.

A police case under registration No. 48/2020 Section 174 CRPC has been registered in Malpe police station.

Very sad .died alone without anyones notice or care. There are so many cases where men consume lot of alcohol and last dont know where they are .Even when some family members or neighbours advice them they dont care or abuse them.so noone is interested to go to such person.Atleast his family members could have take him to anonymous alcoholiker to treat him.many people fear to go to such people because noone know what he would do in a drunken stuper.very sad.why noone inquired about him is a mystery.may his soul rest in peace.heartfelt sympathy to his family.Noone wishes such a end at any time.

Really very very sad to hear. I blame the neighbours. At least if they have inquired about him this would not have happened. Actually we human beings have now become very selfish. We are least bothered about any fellow beings. See animals if a crow dies all crows will gather and shout. From July to September of course all are in problems. I agree. But he is not in an Iceland. It is really a curse on the society and humanity. Another fault of the deceased is he had no friends or what. We are also drinking but we always inquire about the people who are in our neighbourhood irrespective of cast creed etc. We have lost love for our people. Just taking care of our families is enough. That too has not been observed here. Means he is not having anybody in his family. Very sad news and bad news. He had no friends to Atleast help him. I feel very sad and with heart felt sorrow I am writing this. Shame on us humans. I don't know him. Neither I am not related to him but still I feel like my own brother. There is no excuse to his relatives and friends.

How come the panchayat officials and police who sealed down his house never bothered to check on his condition for over 2 months...?
