Udupi, Sep 28: A preliminary meeting of activists for the panchayat elections was held on September 27 under the aegis of the Udupi block Congress committee and Ambalpady rural Congress joint committee on Ambalpady panchayat level at the residence of Kappettu Ravish Poojary.

Former minister Pramod Madhwaraj speaking at the meeting commended the service of the party workers reaching out to victims of recent floods, rescuing them and shifting them to safer places before the arrival of officials in Kidiyoor, Bankerakatte, Majjigepade Daddi etc. “It is the duty of activists to select a well known suitable candidate for the upcoming panchayat elections,” he opined.

District Congress chief secretary Kishan Hegde Kolkebail said that Indira Gandhi had passed the Act that the one who ploughed the land is the owner of the land but BJP passed the Act wherein the person who is wealthy is the owner of the land thereby throwing farmers onto the street. The block Congress president Sathish Ameen Padukere said that the party has a good environment in Ambalpady panchayat this time. “The activists should start working in that direction now itself,” he said.

The selection committee of the candidate was formed at the meeting. The block media committee president Krishnamoorthy Acharya spoke.
