Media Release

Mangaluru, Sep 23: Career decisions play a vital role in shaping the future of students. In today’s circumstances where there are numerous options, knowing about the choices available can help students make the right choices. The Career Guidance programme at Manipal School aims to do just that. The school wants to help its students make informed decisions. Last week, the school organized a virtual session on ‘Career in Indian Coast Guard’ for the students of Grade 10.

The deputy commandant, Shipra Chaudhary, district logistics officer in the Indian Coast Guard who extends logistics support to the entire Coast Guard fleet of Karnataka state conducted the session. She was commissioned into the service in Dec 2010 and has completed almost a decade of serving in the prime armed force of India. Currently posted in Mangaluru, she has served all over India in places such as Delhi, West Bengal, Gujarat, Goa, Kerala and Tamilnadu.

Gaman, a student of Grade 10 A extended a note of welcome. The Principal Anuradha Shivaram, and senior teachers were also present at the virtual meet.

The session was an insight into the career options available at the Indian Coast Guard.

Shipra, explained to the students how the Indian Coast Guard is a multi-mission organization, conducting round the year real-life operations at sea. She briefed on how the Coast Guards provide protection to fishermen, assisting them at sea while in distress, taking measures to preserve and protect the marine environment and in assisting the customs and other authorities in anti-smuggling operations.

She also laid stress on the right combination of subjects, entrance exams, various courses available and other steps involved in choosing a career in Coast Guard. She also informed about the perks that come with this career option.

The interactions ensured there was no low point in the session.

At the end of the session, a movie on Coast Guard was played. All the queries and doubts of the students were addressed by Shipra.

Niyathi Pai of grade X B in her thank you note extended gratitude on behalf of the school.

Student’s testimonial:

“A very informative session as it showed us the various opportunities available at the Coast Guard which I personally did not know about. It gave us a feeling that serving our own country is a matter of great pride and privilege and this feeling cannot be obtained by all. It made us aware that Engineering or Medical Science are not the only options available to lead a comfortable life. I’m very glad that I attended this session as it gave me an insight to the profession of a Coast Guard, the risks involved, the minimum amount of years to be served, the income generated, special facilities that our families will receive and many more. I feel more people should take up such career options.”
- Monith, Grade 10 B

“The session was really informative. We got to learn about the benefits and importance of a Coast Guard in our country. I even learnt about the types of Coast Guards and how to get an entry into this field which I was not aware of earlier.”
- Meghna, Grade10 A

To sum up it was a very informative and enriching session for the students of Manipal School.
