Mangalore, Mar 2: The attacks on the offices of two newspapers in the city caused damage to several items on the premises including computers and furniture. Police confirmed that both acts were committed by the same group.  Following the incidents, Section 144 has been clamped in the district for 48 hours.

At the ‘Kannada Prabha’ office, where the ‘Indian Express’ also has its office, the miscreants threw a petrol packet and a bottle filled with petrol which was ignited.

Kannada Prabha Office:

Jaya Kirana office :

As a result, a chair, four computers, and a printer and glass in the room were damaged. The fire was doused immediately by the firemen and this helped contain further damage.

A staff member said that there were more than 10 miscreants in the group and most of them had used cloth pieces as masks.

None of the staff were able to identify the miscreants as the office filled with smoke suddenly.

Almost all of the staff was present at the office and were busy preparing for the next day’s edition of the newspaper.

At the office of ‘Jaya Kirana’, the staff said that miscreants had thrown only the petrol packet but not ignited the fire.

One of the miscreants had an iron rod while the others ransacked the office. Four computers, glass of a chamber, and other items were damaged in the incident.

A staff member said that miscreants were wearing helmets and some had cloth masks.

Superintendent of police Dr A S Rao visited both the offices and said that both acts were committed by the same group.

He also said that there are clues about the identity of the miscreants and they will be apprehended soon.

Mangalore: Miscreants Attack ‘Kannada Prabha’, ‘Jaya Kirana’ Offices

Daijiworld Media Network—Mangalore (CN)

Mangalore, Mar 2: The city office of Kannada daily newspaper ‘Kannada Prabha’, on the first floor of Ganesh Mahal, located on K S Rao Road, was reportedly attacked by miscreants at around 9.30 pm on Tuesday March 2.

While the office was still open, a group of about 6-7 miscreants, four of them in masks, rushed in and dropped some kind of fire bomb which resulted in smoke within the office.

The office staff present inside were rescued without anyone suffering injury. The heavy smoke and fire damaged office equipment and computers.

Police rushed to the spot and the firemen also reached the venue within minutes. The situation is now under control.

The miscreants fled the place and the police are hunting for them.

Another group of masked miscreants allegedly attempted to attack the city-based evening daily ‘Jaya Kirana’ simultaneously. Further updates are awaited.

It can be recalled that a translated article by Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen on ‘Burqa’, published by Kannada Prabha, had led to violence in Shimoga and Hassan.

The violence left two people dead and several injured besides causing damage to property running into millions of rupees.

Taslima had later stated that her article was distorted in order to slander her.

Mr RT Shetty/Mangalore. I really agree with you in all respects and if humanity is lost, then we cant call ourselves as humans. First and far most before looking at our religion, we should look at humanity. For me humanity is the first and important religion which is primary and rest like islam.hinduism, christianity are secondary. We should marak clear boundaries differentiating between humanity and ones religion. Ur comments are really readable. Keep writing Mr Shetty. May God bless you.

Mr. RT Shetty. Why should I say lie? I am peace loving person. First Could you tell me who according you ar true indians because according to nagesh maamu, all hindus are only true indians. not the minorities.. I visit church every week and my hindu friend visit temple every friday with his wife. We all go together to different places every week.

I have worked in most of the gulf countries like bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait. It is not only indians working in the labour job even people from bangaldesh, pakistan, indonesia and malaysia also work as a labour in gulf countries. Different countries have their different lifestyles, You should adapt yourself to that country. if not, then you will feel indifferently and also feel discriminated.

Everybody goes gulf to earn money not to enjoy. Even people in US says they cant go outside after 8 at night but in gulf that is not the situation you are free to go out anytime. Even ladies feels secured at night while going outside. Everybody is working hard to earn money so people have to struggle. If people were discriminated in the name of religion then no non muslim would have stayed in gulf. Dont you see every month our indians celebrate different events in different gulf countries like sports event, cultural event etc.

    Dear brothers and sisters,

Its very sad to see all the comments which are just written to argue without knowing what are we wrighting and does these aggressions represent each of our religion?, Being a muslim i request my muslim brothers to respect every religion failing to do is HARAM..I request our muslim brothers to present our relgion with the teachings of our Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) But unfortunately we never follow his Sunna or Teachings and we argue with people who no nothing about ISLAM, its Teachings about rights of women about the rights of men the way of living about the scientific evidences mention in our Holy Quran which has been only revealed by the scientists recently in few years? We are not preaching our religion in proper way and hence we have no rights to insult or critisize other religion, present them with the truth if they are serious they will accept else its their choise Only Almighty ALLAH will chose whom to accept and whom not..Hence I request our muslim brothers to maintain peace wich is thought by our Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)

STRICT CODE FOR PRESERVING COMMUNAL HARMONY :

In multi-religious country like India, communal harmony is the basic neccessity for progress can be ensured if we follow the basic rules as below :

    1) Only a practicing Muslim can raise queries within his Islamic community on all doubts or code of practices. A person belonging to other religion who only knows a part or bit of Islam cannot make half-baked doubts and queries. If he wants still to raise it to the Muslims, he has to become a Muslim first, start practicing it and then comment on it. I have taken the example of Islam, but this principle should be applied across all religions.
    2) A Christian who wants to convert a Hindu to his religious fold can talk or write 1000 pages about the greatness of Christianity, but never should write one word or sentence against Hinduism. Only a practicing Hindu can raise any doubts within his forum.
    3) A rationalist, if he wants to criticize any religion, he has to read the religious scriptures/material in whole and should not be ive and pick-up verses out of context. He should humbly request the respective religious community to get clarification.
    4) No posters shall be posted by person who practices one religion or a rationalist which can affect (even minor) the belief of person of another religion.
    5) The issues related to caste is wholly an internal affair related to Hinduism and no other religious person shall use or comment on “Caste”.

My office belongs to indian guy Who is hindu. My Manager is a muslim and my team members includes muslim, hindu , christian, sikh and etc.

We have been enjoying all so many years without any fear with so many happiness. We go everywhere without any fear in Dubai. We have equal freedom everywhere. We don't spit the venom against any religion nor any people say anything about our religion. Nor the any news paper has spread any news about such non sense stuffs. It happens only in india because the sangh pariwar does not want the people to stay in peace.

They want to bring out the disharmony in mangalore and eslewehre either hook or crook method. Today Sir Chidamabaram has given a statement saying "Why such article was published when muslims are observing the festival( Eid - milad)"? this shows the Sangh pariwar is involved in such attacks? or if not they are provoking such violence by doing such acts like publishing wrong info about the religion in the newspaper? . Mr.Pawan has rightly said we live in democratic, secular country. We are committed to respect the values of secularism which only brings peace in this region. Hindus, especially in Mangalore have lot of tolerance which has been exploited by these political parties by using minorities as a weapon to gain political mileage.

We have to teach our children to respect all the religion and their sentiments otherwise it will become like Wild West (Pak). It is wrong to publish or write articles by Tasleem, art by MFH ,Danish carton or book by S. Rushdie .In most of the Isl. Countries critsim of any religion or Government is forbidden, even punishable by imprisonment or even death.

We can not throw these extremists but we can change their attitude by spreading love not by jihad, Non violence is the only solution other wise it will explode like…. And will spoil the peace loving region.

I call upon the authorities to punish the culprits without fear and favour. This is totally aunacceptable and uncivilised way. When our hindu brothers protest and vandalise, we criticise their action with all might and apply double standards when it comes to us. We are living in a country where we have constitutional values, judicial system. Peaceful protest and strike are allowed. But violoent protests, vandalism, destruction of public properies are not allowed and cant be justified however the provocation may be. I call upon local muslim leaders to maintain peace in line with the teachings of Islam and not to add fuel to the burning issues. These miscreants forgot, such acts of theirs not only defame the religion they represent, but also bring about much destruction to the lives and properties of their own community members. Please maintain peace. Dont think that Islam/Allah is offended by Taslimas write ups. Now I am sure by the acts such as like this, Islam and Allah both are offended and hurt.

My strong request to Police is , firstly arrest and book all the mischievious press resporters, cameramen and photographers who have links and associationships with all kinds of miscreants, communals and criminals. Bunch of pressmen and theirs support staff have close links with anti-socials. First treat them with police methods. Then in mangalore all is well.

Religious fanaticism in Canara and adjacent region is getting too obsessive. Either for a religious or for a political cause, one is going too wild forgetting the aim.

Fundametlism sometime leads to controversy when the modernists view it differently. When this controversy is too much, there starts the problem. No easy solution and this is quite evident today, where people do take law in hand and destroy public property. In a nut-shell all that I see is - we have the same pattern as that of slum dwellerrs though we are more or less educated, middle class and in a sophisticated luxurious township.

In a democratic setup, one can not suppress equality and freedom, which is secured by the constitution. Also to be noted, we have a secular setup. Our administration, politics, school or institutions such as legal, police, military are supposedly
free from religious bias. Getting law in hand is no good for us or anyone. It is a pity that the state is experiencing a havoc with strict violation everywhere.

Even in the messages of this forum one can witness the bitter fights or hatredness with blames. Most of the time they are pointed to religion or the parties. People are not wanting to fit in the ideal setup, which is laid by the constitution. Let us refine our culture, thoughts by passing out all the -ve energy that is surrounding us. Be united. Religion exists only to shape us better and not to abuse. Live happily with no conflicts.

    Hoping for a better future...

Prakash, it is easy to say win them over with love. If Mahatma Gandhi could not do those days just forget it now when atmosphere is thoroughly communalised with some Indian showing extra territorial alleginace.

We know Ram Sene and what it stands for. But to blame them for this incident is ridiculous. Everyone knows who has been behind the vandalism in Shimoga and Hassan.
Shifting the blame wont serve the purpose. Some people are just good at blame game. It is now amply clear that certain political parties can go to any extent to garner political mileage. The otherwise very vocal people who always react sharply to anything on Hindus as now keeping quiet. What does it indicate
