Kerala gold smuggling case: Swapna Suresh, aide held by NIA in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Jul 11 (IANS): In a swift operation, sleuths of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) have detained Swapna Suresh and her accomplice Sandeep Nair in the city for their alleged involvement in the Kerala gold smuggling case, a source said on Saturday.

"The NIA officials have taken Swapna and her aide (Sandeep) into custody from a city house for their alleged role in the smuggling of 30kg gold from the UAE to Kerala early this week," a city police official said.

The duo will be flown to Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala on Sunday on a transit remand and produced in a local court for police or judicial custody.

Swapna, a former employee of the UAE consulate in the Kerala capital, is among the four accused the NIA had booked for allegedly facilitating the smuggling of gold through diplomatic baggage to Thiruvananthaupuram from Dubai on July 5.

Swapna and Suresh ad been absconding since the case came to light and an FIR registered against them.

The NIA took over the case on Friday and filed a first information report against the accused under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The other two accused are P.S. Sarith and Fazil Fareed.

We as a nation take things lightly when breaking the law-Be it driving on the wrong side of the road, food adulteration, black money ect. This has to change by way of hefty penalties and imprisonment. This will make a better and prosperous nation. Question is who will bell the cat-the politician?

This clearly shows the hand of Kerala Govt in this Gold Smuggling. CM wanted to "puska " the case. But the oppostion parties in Kerala forced CM to enquire the case. Still he managed to help the accused to get away from T vdrm I n spite of 3 level lock down in the State. But NIA within a day of taking the case nabbed both the accused

It is a known fact that Sandeep Nair; an accomplice of Swapna Suresh, was a driver of a BJP councillor at Thiruvananthapuram for a long time and had close associations with top BJP leaders. The very moment opposition raised these questions, Pinarayi Vijayan has shown his readiness to accept any kind of investigation and himself recommended HM to initiate NIA investigation.

Also how and why the BJP ruled state, which does not allow even common man to enter your state for emergency treatment, allowed these people to enter Karnataka. As you allege (which is not the fact), if it is Vijayan’s competence to get them cross the borders, then it is Yeddy’s incompetence.

Get your facts right before making senseless comments based on the character of BJP politicians
