Kundapur, Jul 10: Karnataka state association of Asha workers staged indefinite protests urging for a monthly salary of not less than Rs 12,000, better safety equipment to combat the virus, suitable compensation and free complete medical treatment of Asha workers who are infected by the virus. They stopped work in Kundapur and all over the state on July 10 and resorted to protests.

Asha workers had begun state-wide protests on June 30 and protests on taluk and district levels since the last week. They met the deputy commissioners, tahsildars, several ministers in the state and MLAs urging them to fulfil their demands. The association submitted ten appeals to the government since January. They mentioned in the current appeal that they had to resort to protests inevitably as the government failed to respond to their requests.

Asha workers at primary health centres submitted requests to their respective medical officials and joined the indefinite state-wide protests.
