CM asks officials to penalize misuse of e-way bills by transporters

Bengaluru, Jun 6: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has directed the officials to check misuse and irregularities in the use of e-way bills and penalize goods transporters indulging in such irregularities.

He held a review meeting with officials of Commercial Taxes and the mobilization of the taxes through video conferencing in Bengaluru on Saturday.

Yediyurappa, in his review meeting held last month, had flagged off the problems and had asked the officials to check the misuse of the e-way bills and irregularities during transport of goods.

The Commercial Taxes Department officials informed the meeting that the number of vigilance squads had been raised from 77 to 116, which had helped in checking as many as 2.89 lakh goods transport vehicles and 7.46 lakh e-way bills.

Nearly 300 cases of misuse of e-ways and other irregularities had been detected by the vigilance squads resulting in collecting Rs 6.21 crore in the form of taxes and penalties.

Yediyurappa asked the officials to conduct a detailed survey of all dealers carrying out a turnover of Rs 40 lakh and more as also the commercial complexes in the city collecting monthly rental income of Rs 20 lakh or more.

The Chief Minister expressed happiness at the Centre releasing Rs 4,314.13 crore as GST compensation for the period of December 2019 to February 2020.

With the relaxation of the post-COVID lockdown conditions, he said the State was able to increase its revenue collection from petrol and diesel sales.

Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Chief Secretary TM Vijaya Bhaskar, Chief Minister’s Additional Chief Secretary P Ravikumar, Finance Department Additional Chief Secretary ISN Prasad, Commercial Taxes Department Commissioner M S Shrikar and other senior officials were present.

Homage to Devaraj Urs

Earlier, the Chief Minister paid homage by garlanding the statue of former Chief Minister D Devaraj Urs in front of Vidhana Soudha to mark the 38th death anniversary

Deputy Chief Minister Govinda M Karjol, Health, Family Welfare and Backward Classes Minister B Sriramulu, Urban Development Minister Byarathi Basavaraj, B Y Raghavendra, MP and others accompanied the Chief Minister.

Yediyurappa and other dignitaries planted saplings to mark the death anniversary of Devaraj Urs.
