Beltangady: Gang posing as police robs Rs 10 lac from gamblers

Beltangady, Jun 4: A gang reportedly escaped after posing like conducting a police raid on some gamblers, duly taking away Rs 10 lac from them. The incident happened at Padlady in Layila village in the taluk recently.

Hoysala J P from Malaluru in Chikkamagaluru district, in his complaint filed in Beltangady police station, stated that the accused, identified as Dawood and five others, had taken away money from the spot.

Hoysala J P was playing cards in the courtyard of a house at Layila Padlady on May 29 when Dawood was present. At around 10.30 pm, he said, Dawood acted as if he was conducting a police raid. With the help of a gang of five to six youngsters, he hit Hoysala on the forehead and snatched away a bag containing Rs 10 lac in cash from him before going away, it is said.

Beltangady police have registered a case also against the complainants for playing cards when lockdown was in force, and also the accused. Investigation is in progress.
