Wajid Khan demise: B'wood condolences continue pouring in


Mumbai, Jun 1 (IANS): Condolence messages have continued pouring in for Wajid Khan of the composer duo Sajid-Wajid, who passed away in the early hours of Monday, all through the day.

A source close to Khan's family told IANS that the 42-year-old musician was suffering due to kidney infection and his condition worsened when he was afflicted by the coronavirus.

"Wajid bhai had been suffering kidney related problems from sometime. He even underwent kidney transplant a while ago. Unfortunately, his health got worsened and then he caught COVID-19," the source added.

Shocked to hear about the Wajid's demise, several celebrities took to social media to express their grief.

Amitabh Bachchan tweeted: "Shocked at the passing of Wajid Khan.. a bright smiling talent passes away .. duas, prayers and in condolence."

As reported in an early IANS report, Salman Khan, who used collaborate with Sajid-Wajid frequently, tweeted to say that he "will always love, respect, remember and miss you".

Wajid's close friend and singer Sonu Nigam, who was among the first to confirm the news in the early hours of Monday, has also paid a musical tribute to the departed musician on his YouTube channel.

Akshay Kumar is "saddened to hear about the untimely demise of #WajidKhan, talented and ever-smiling".

Varun Dhawan shared that Wajid Khan was very much close to the former's family.

"Shocked hearing this news @wajidkhan7 bhai was extremely close to me and my family. He was one of the most positive people to be around. We will miss you Wajid bhai thank you for the music," he shared.

Actress Katrina Kaif shared that she will always remember Wajid's smile.

Wajid Khan, one half of the popular composer duo Sajid-Wajid, was cremated at Mumbai's Versova crematorium. His funeral was attended by his family members and close friends, including actor Aditya Pancholi and hairstylist Aalim Hakim.

Aalim even took to social media and wrote: "Brother Wajid bhai left today. We studied together in college right from F.Y.J.C. We struggled together to become something in our life. We have always been so close. Our parents were very close friends. I just can't believe he is gone.

"A guy with such a pure heart. How much time we have spent together. It's not a good day for me, I lost such a beautiful friend. Jaan tha hum sab doston ki Wajid. Wajid bhai your beautiful smile and the love in your heart for your friends will always stay with me. Wajid bhai you are going to live forever in our hearts. #rip."

Singer Darshan Rawal recalled how Wajid Khan invited him home to feast on biryani.

"After the shoot at a reality show was going back home and wajid bhai came and said chal aaja biryani khaate hai (cooked by his mother) and we shared the biryani and talked and laughed,I am going to remember that day for my entire life," Darshan shared.

Rapper Badshah said: "I am deeply saddened by this news, it is very hard to believe that he is not with us anymore. Wajid Sir was such a great man, extremely talented and a humble soul. We all have lost someone special and this is a very big loss. May his soul rest in peace."

Singer Papon shared that Wajid Khan wanted to collaborate with him.

"Wajid Bhai always expressed that he wanted to work with me and I was more than happy to be collaborating with such a talented and humble man. Unfortunately I didn't get the opportunity to work with him, though we had plans. I had heard he was unwell, this news is extremely sad. This is definitely a very big loss to the industry, he was a very good soul. May his soul rest in peace," Papon recalled.

Wajid along with brother Sajid made their debut as music directors with Salman Khan's "Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya". He had given chartbusters like " Jalwa", "Hud Hud Dabangg" and "Chinta Ta Ta Chita Chita".

Wajid Khan is survived by his wife and two children, son and a daughter.
