Court denies bail to Mumbai doctor accused for sexual assault

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai (SHP)

Mumbai, May 27: A special court on Monday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of a doctor accused of sexually assaulting a 44-year-old male COVID-19 patient in the ICU of Wockhardt hospital on May 1, TOI reported.

The 33-year-old doctor was sacked from the hospital following the accusations.

Meanwhile, the court also maintained that the custodial interrogation of the medical worker was necessary. The special court refuted the doctor's defence that he was falsely implicated, and maintained that there was no reason for the hospital to lodge a false complaint.

"If anticipatory bail is granted to the applicant, there is every possibility that accused may pressurize victim and other witnesses," the court said.
