Dammam, Dec 27: Cornich Blue Cricketers won the prestigious “JF Super Cup-2009” by trampling NGC Jubail by 3 runs in the cricket tournament jointly sponsored by MGA Trading & Saudi Diesel Equipment held at DCA grounds facilities here, recently. The match was organized by Jammiyyathul Falah (JF) Dammam for the noble cause of the community welfare specially education. 12 Cricket teams participated in the tournament.

Cornich Blue Cricketers (CBC) first opted to bat after winning the toss. Initially, CBC has wobbled much hither and thither to make a fabulous takeoff. They lost their 1st wicket scoring at just 9 runs. Then batsman Mohammed joined its captain Sachin and put on 15 runs for the 2nd wicket. When the captain was out of the pitch, the entry of versatile player Kaizer into the field reinforced the team’s position towards a commendable position as he hit 3 huge sixes in the midst of ovation by the audience.

Mohammed and Kaizar scored valuable 25 runs for the 4th wicket in a good partnership. In the end, CBC cricketers were able to score 65 on the board in their allotted over. Kaizer scored 22, Sachin made 15 and Mohammed made 14. Usman and Shahul from NGC took 2 wickets each and Anis has taken one wicket.

Chasing a target, NGC opener Lathif was out at once on the 2nd ball. NGC’s Asif too has to leave the ground in the 3rd ball of the 1st over, scoring 1 run on the board. Captain Mansoor got a good back-up from all-rounder Anis, both contributed 15 runs for the 3rd wicket due to their steady batting. After Mansoor and Nawaz were out Anis joined in, who together played remarkably and obtained 35 runs in the 4th over. In the last 2 overs, NGC required 25 runs and Anis hits 17 runs to the bowler Aziz on the 5th over with 2 mighty sixes and scored 58 total runs. NGC still required 8 runs in 6 balls.

Ali, left-hand bowler from CBC came to bowl in the last over of the match. In the first 3 deliveries, NGC batsman was able to score 5 runs and they still needed 3 more runs to win this match. But, the faultless bowling by Ali and well fortified fielding from Cornich Blue Cricketers did not give any chance for NGC to score even a single run in the last 3 balls. Anis’s tremendous efforts went in vain to put away the final match, but he was overwhelmingly adjudged a “Man of the Match”  for his excellent bating performance unbeaten 41 runs and well supported by Nawaz made 12 runs. In the playoff, CBC defeated NGC-Jubail by 3 runs. Riyaz from CBC took 2 wickets.

Actually, the heavy rain doubled with lightning and thunders in the morning shook heavily the core morale of the JF Members, cricket team players and others alike, yet team spirit didn’t allow them to let down as all the members of “Cricket Organizing Committee” showed their steadfastness under such crucial situation and decided to shift the venue, which was first scheduled at Rakah Cricket Ground to “ESKAN Cricket Ground here. The spontaneous decision to shift the cricket venue from existing ground to new ground had made the impossible task possible. JF Dammam Unit’s Sports coordinator Siraj and tournament chairman Br Sharief Karkala were fully lauded for their timely decision and action. All the teams were informed about the new venue and accordingly the tournament took-off smoothly with one hour delay and the eight overs tournament was reduced to six overs to approach the closing time appropriately.

Prior to this playoff, 1st semi final was played between AMACO-Jubail Vs NGC Jubail. NGC defeated AMACO by 20 runs. Chosen to bat first, NGC made 64 runs, in which Mansoor and Anis scored 31 & 11 respectively. In return, AMACO were able to score 44. Niyaz made 10 runs. Mansoor of NGC was judged as the “Man of the Match” for his excellent batting performance.

In the 2nd semi finals played between Crescents vs. Cornich Blue Cricketers, Cornich Blue won the match by 6 wickets. Excellent bowling performance by Santhosh and Nizam succeeded to take 3 wickets each; Riyaz and Aziz took 2 wickets each, while CBC comfortable achieved the target with 6 wickets to spare.

Congrats Cornich Blue Cricketers and Hard luck to NGC Jubail, Who played like Champions and deserved to be the Champions till the last over but a great bowling over by Ali and a poor batting by Nawaz by end of the match took the Championship to CBC Khobar. It was a wonderful Cricket Tournament conducted by JF.
