Mangaluru: NITK produces hand sanitizers to meet shortage

Mangaluru, Apr 4: After coronavirus invaded the country, there has been tremendous demand for hand sanitizers. The sudden spurt in demand has resulted in shortage of hand sanitizers in the market.

Taking into account this shortage, the chemistry department of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) Suratkal has begun to produce hand sanitizers. NITK director Prof K Uma Umamaheshwar Rao, inaugurated this social concern initiative.

The raw materials needed for this product have been provided by the institute. It has plans to produce 5,000 bottle of sanitizer containing 70 mm each. The ones already manufactured were distributed to Suratkal police station, health department, petrol bunk, watchmen of NITK and employees.

Head of chemistry department Dr Arun Isloor, stated that the product has been made to conform to high standards set by World Health Organization.
