Mangaluru, Mar 30: The COVID-19 lockdown, has forced all institutions to close down and educational institutions were the first to get closed down. These are difficult times and each organization is trying to cope in this own way with the present condition. At the Yenepoya ( Deemed to be University), they have not allowed this situation to affect the learning of our students.

All students studying under Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) are now attending the e-class room sessions daily. The university has 8 constituent colleges catering to Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, Allied Health Sciences, Ayurveda , Homoeopathy and Degree programmes under different specialties.

Regular in-class teaching sessions are now being rendered online on e-classrooms for every stream. Every day live classroom sessions are being conducted by the faculty from the college before the lockdown announcement and now sitting within the safety of their homes while students are attending these sessions from their homes. Students of the University are spread across the country and some of them are attending the classes even from abroad.

E-classrooms facilitates the voice-based teaching sessions complemented by presentations along with live videos. Students are participating in live discussions and student presentations as a part of classroom activities. Students also take part in electronic assignment submissions and online tests using the learning management system. Each day 125 lecture hours conducted on more than a hundred subjects where more than 3,000 students take part across all institutions affiliated to Yenepoya Deemed to be University.

The principals and vice principals of the respective colleges are coordinating the effort with the faculty-in charge for online learning and the results are getting better every day. The student and parent feedback has been encouraging and we plan to introduce student seminars and case studies discussion etc as well in the coming days.

As the things look pretty uncertain in the coming weeks, they are ensuring that the students do not lose out on the academics and follow the directives issued by the government. The current situation has finally forced the institution to look beyond classrooms and use technology most effectively as a tool for learning.
