Medical fraternity's dedication, commitment to profession calls for noteworthy praise

Mangaluru, Mar 28: The world is devastated by coronavirus. Besides India, the deadly virus is spread in more than 190 countries including Italy, China, America, France, London, etc. Several countries have declared lockdown. We were eager to set foot on Mars. But the current situation is such that we are afraid to step out into the yard of our house. People look at each other as if they were untouchables. Maintaining a safe distance is inevitable and is the social responsibility of every citizen in the current circumstances.

However, during the present trying conditions, the doctors of our health department, nurses, lab technicians and other assistants have indulged day and night in the service of coronavirus patients. They are trying to save the lives of patients ignoring their own lives. This is what is meant by engrossing oneself in his profession. They too could obtain leave from their work and sit inside closed doors in fear of the coronavirus. They too have families and relatives who are worried about their health. It is not possible to evaluate their determination to protect patients while they consider their duty toward God.

There are thousands of ways to earn if we are alive. But we should understand their service behind pledging their lives. It will not be wrong to term such noble doctors as blessed in the modern age. Comparison of doctors to the Almighty appears to be appropriate in the current junctures. The true meaning of professionalism and devotion to duty can be understood through them.

Innumerable retired doctors and nurses returning to work to face the challenge posed by coronavirus is a reflection to the humane love held by them. The incidence of a 68-year-old retired doctor, Jean Jackas in France who perished serving coronavirus patients is fresh in front of our eyes. 23 doctors in Italy gave up their lives so far while treating coronavirus patients. Kerala based nurse Liny who was looking after Nifa patients died out of Nifa disease in 2018. While everybody in India is confined to their houses and thinking about their safety, all the doctors are working hard day and night to drive away the deadly disease. Members of the medical fraternity who become victims while protecting patients in their responsibility are memorable.

It is necessary to remember the selfless sacrifice and service to mankind of doctors during the time of disaster before we turn against them when they err.

It is the responsibility of every citizen to salute every doctor in the world who works to protect from the deadly coronavirus the people without sleep and rest.
